We have outright holes at RG, WR1 (or WR2 if you want to green glasses Decker into a 1), TE (Cumberland is not a #1 TE), OLB (Barnes was not meant to be a 3 down guy even if he comes back strong) and FS (one of the reasons the Jets deep pass defense blew chunks last year was they had two run-stopping SS paired in the backfield). You could also argue we have a hole at CB but I think it is possible that one of the lesser CB's on the Jets can handle CB2 if Milliner can handle CB1.
I agree. I'd rather go after Brandon Cooks than Emmanuel Sanders who previously has had screws inserted in both of his feet.
We need to get who we can now and worry about the draft when it comes in May. Grabbing a guy like Jones or Sanders would allow us to more of an emphasis on another position such as tight end and a guy like Ebron but if it were possible (not saying it is) that a guy like Mike Evans drops to 18 and he's the BPA on our board we will take him. The draft is not dictating what we are doing right now.
The fact that the phrase "we don't have many holes" is being said in this thread is hilarious lol This can't be truly happening can it?
if we sign sanders/jones or another vet wr we will absolutely have that luxury. any chance you can get to create that luxury is another step towards building a deep team that can stay out of cap problems and be a perennial play off team. become a perrennial play off team and the chances of going on a s.b. run increase.
If you start thinking "we don't need any more receivers" just look back at who our starters were last year. You'll change your mind quick.
if we sign sanders/jones… there not going to use a#1 pick on a wr.. thell use it on a another position.. this isn't madden were you can have 4-5 receiving options… i don't know how many snaps total a team averages 3 wide sets.. def not that many 4
im not saying we don't need receivers.. but I'm saying if you want to use a high pick on a wr.. there is no need to sign a starter
We drafted Mo Wilk to play DE, we drafted Coples to play DE, then we drafted Sheldon to play DE. We will go BPA. If it comes down to two guys that are close on their board then yeah they'll go with the higher need. Regardless we'll be drafting a receiver at some point.
OK SAY WE SIGN ANOTHER FREE AGENT STARTER TO A 3+ YEAR DEAL….AND WE DRAFT LEE/COOKS…WE WILL NOT RESIGN KERLY
idzic will take the best player he can regardless of position. this isn't fantasy, we aren't picking a team for 1 season only. decker is on a 2 year deal another vet won't be on a long deal either and kerley is going to be due next year. having another wr developing is not a bad thing
FIRST OFF….IS THERE A TEAM IN THE NFL WITH TWO FREE AGENT STARTERS?…ON THE TOP OF MY HEAD I DONT BELIEVE THERE IS ONE
Why is that? Lets say we sign Jones then get Cooks 2014--- Decker,Jones,Cooks,Kerley,Nelson Solid core of 5 guys 2015 --- Decker, Jones, Cooks, Kerley --- Nelson's contract is up
