If we can get 5 starters via the draft this year we will be better than last year

We have about 12 picks coming this draft. We have the best defensive line in the league. I think Decker paired up with a good receiver via draft makes us a better offense.

I don't think we need to break the bank for anymore FAs to remain competitive. Jets weren't winning the SB this year anyway - we should stay the course and that means building through the draft. I see us being really dangerous in 2015

The Dallas Cowboys from the 90s were built via the draft and they became extremely good rather quickly. This is the blue-print to win in today's league. The Seahawks followed the same formula.

If so, it's only because last year this time, Cro was coming off of an excellent season in 2012 and there was no reason to suspect that his play was going to fall off a cliff.

IMO, most likely Howard/Giacommini will be a wash, if not a plus. We've upgraded at WR by a good margin. What remains to be seen is how Cro will play in AZ. If his play will be as bad or nearly as bad as last season, then we're in no worse shape, and in fact are better off imo.

Yeah, maybe. He doesn't want to be a backup and indicated he would wait to see where he has a chance to be a starter. That probably won't be obvious until after the draft.

Never thought I'd see the day when you're the only one I agree with on this board for a week straight. Cheers.

Very well said. Top teams don't over react to free agency. People forget most players are in free agency for a reason. Most are overpaid short term stop gaps at the later part of their career. If the value was really there, the original team would have kept them. Few exceptions really bubble up to free agency that are truly worth pursuing unless you are desperate.
I see NE as a team in transition, a team that is desperately trying to keep up with Denver to reach the championship. They are feeling some of the pressure of no longer being the "Kings of the AFC"and they are making uncharacteristic moves in free agency to remain competitive. The have a short term focus now, as the horizon for Brady is rapidly shrinking.

We may not be able to fill all the holes... but with our run D and a few upgrades on offense... as well as adding a year under Geno's belt we can easily win 10 games

We are not a top team, in fact we were the laughing stock of the NFL and the world this time last year and only because Rex coached his ass off did we overachieve and get to 8-8. We can afford to spend some money in free agency if we ever want to be considered a top team we should.

Free agency can't make a team, it can only break it. I applaud Idzik for the lack of moves. Over the last 10 years I can only really pinpoint one free agent who was the difference in a Super Bowl win, on the flip side, I can name multiple free agent signing that legitimately set teams back an entire season. So for all the people freaking out, relax, if we are to win the Super Bowl it will be because of good drafting, not free agent signings.

Appropriate for what's been said the past couple of days....“@MMehtaNYDN: Decker on being No. 1 WR: "I don't think there's ever #s or roles for certain people. It's not just 1 guy that's going to make difference"”

Yeah and the Oline will still be in shambles, if anything Brick and Mangold will only be a year older and even less able to cover for the useless guards, if the new RT even is a wash. Safety is still going to be a joke, as will CB2 unless Idzik actually brings back Cromartie in a hurry and he isn't shot or Walls steps up more than Rex obviously thinks he's capable of. No TE threat either. Meanwhile the Patriots just got significantly better and the 3 or 4 lucky wins we got this season are not likely to repeat themselves. It'll take a miraculous draft and a perfect close to FA to reasonably expect to get back to 8-8 let alone 9-7.

Exactly why we should keep some cap space... we will need to revamp that O line coming up, as well as lock up Wilk

I don't think the best way to build a team is through big name free agents. We should probably focus on getting a lot of different upgrades at different positions, and I think that that's what Idzik is planning on doing.

He's got a lot of cap space that needs to be spent, and I think he will get some quality players. Let's give him some time and see what moves he makes.

I disagree. He was a major headache to the entire team with his holdout bullshit attitude and completely overpaid for a CB. He was getting QB money and still not happy. He and Tanny are the major culprit's s of our cap hell. For once the owner did it right. Screw Revis. As we speak he is already putting most of his energy on how to renegotiate his 2015 contract. LOL he is poison to any team.

The jury's out. I'm ok with a patient, careful approach but at the end of the day you need ballers. Decker' said good start but there's lots more to be done.

And FA is a great way to build/shore up an O-line.

Yes, this would be a good year to do it. Unfortunately that 5th option year that all these new contracts have I think is going to be too tempting to the front office to keep the players around for one extra year on the cheap. I hope not, I would like them to lock up a couple of long term contracts rather than chance free agency down the road with players like Wilkerson.

I see the people that were saying "be patient" are becoming confused and impatient also. Everybody knew this free agency and the jets with this much cap room were supposed to go together like milk and cookies . I understand the words "overpay" and "they r free agents for a reason" been floating around which is true. But things dont happen if u dont take chances. We can go into this year with "potential" but potential dont get u playoffs . We have one more playoff absence then we most likely lose Rex. Then we reallllly have to start over. We can bash tanny all we want but at least he really wanted this team to win . We bash the GM that took the chances to get us a long over due Super Bowl appearance. Yeah he over paid some guys and coulda used some approval on some of his signings but shit!!! At some point u gota pull the trigger. Call me crazy or unrealistic i just want to see a team thats not the underdog for once . I miss the days jets were top 5 in power rankings n shitttt
