it would be better if the draft was before free agency

Stepping away from Pettigrew.. Updates on receivers

Seems like the colts will attempt to lock up Nicks if not the panthers will.
Looks like Sanders will be in Flordia either jax or TB
Steve Smith looks to be a raven

    So the best options are
James Jones, Edleman, Cotchery, and Britt

Exactly. He's also the healthiest FA TE (higher tiered), and he can block. He's dropped some balls. Yet, he has caught more balls then any of our current TEs.

This also doesn't take us out of the Ebron market, Ebron can be moved all over the place in a 2 TE set. Pettigrew is a good pass blocking TE, which can lead to lots of delayed balls coming his way. This is a solid signing if true.

100x's is way of a over exaggeration. Maybe 3 years ago but today pettigrew gets beat of the block pretty regular. A lot of this was masked by Reggies ability to break away quickly.
This will not be the case here unless magic strikes and goodson is our starter (read fat chance here).

I'd rather grab Britt for the potential upside and to keep him away from the Patriots

And if their fans are anything like 80% of the posters in this thread, then I am very happy to have a shot at Pettigrew. I like Ebron a lot, but don't think he makes it to us. I do NOT want Amaro or ASJ. We don't throw the ball 50 times a game. I'd rather get a very good blocking TE (which Pettigrew is). And honestly, I think Pettigrew is a better receiver than Cumberland. If he's coming here, my bet is he's the #1, but they both see the field a bunch. Load up the offense with a ton of safety blankets. Decker's huge. Pettigrew and Cumberland can both go out for passes. Kerley's always there as the 3rd down check down. Get a Sproles-type player in the backfield (which I was hoping we were going to do with the actual Sproles) and this offense can move. These players are a very good fit for what the Jets are looking to do with the West Coast offense.

I don't think getting Pettigrew rules out getting Ebron. If we don't sign Pettigrew because we're planning on getting Ebron, what if Ebron gets drafted before our pick? Or someone we like more falls to us? Then our tight ends are Cumberland and Sudfeld.

Britt was literally the worst WR in the league last year

I think the majority of the Lions under-performed the last few seasons, they were undisciplined and played awful. I think with the Jets, he could revive his primer blocking ability.

If we sign him, he will be 100x the blocker Cumberland is, who essentially is one of the worst blockers in the league at the TE position.

Guessing the veterans would riot at the player's union meeting as soon as that idea would get brought up.

ASJ/Amaro in the 2nd but yeah if none of them made it that would be totally unacceptable, which is why he's gotta get signed when TE isn't even close to the top priority.

Exactly this. It's a terrible idea to anticipate anything from the draft and tailor free agency around that. I would be a big fan of Pettigrew. He underachieved with the Lions but I think a product of that is Stafford is garbage IMO. Pettigrew can block well and seems like he could simply use a fresh start. What's the status of that? I just looked back at his thread and saw his name mentioned a lot. He is currently visiting the Jets?

You guys remember that time yesterday when someone said Decker was on par with David Nelson? That was funny.

Pettigrew & Cumberland shouldn't prevent us from drafting anyone. They're both stop gap players.

Sammy wakins and decker would be a killer 1-2 combo then add in guys like kerly (jones if we sign) and nelson

We set for years in our offensive game

I know a lot of you are against trading up and i usually am too but sammy is gonna be so good i can tell

Shouldnt even bring this idea up its not gonna happen but hopefully lee is still there and him and decker can work great also!

I think Idzik just wants all 3 guys to battle it out for the number #87.
