Did you even read the post? I said he's had chances to prove he was an outside corner just got to read left to right that all
As I stated in other threads I honestly believe, unless someone comes out of nowhere with a ridiculous offer, "our" Cromartie will be back. He was hurt almost all of last year and I think if he can prove he's healthy and stay that way the combination of Cro', Milliner and Wilson will be more than successful. Add another guy via FA if you must but I'd rather look to F/SS. Something just tells me Cro' is coming back. He wants to and the Jets want him to...let's hope his hip lets him.
How about Darrin Walls as the starter? This guy can play - he's almost always in the right position (see various turnonthejets.com articles about him). He certainly would have been better than Cromartie was last year.
The Jets were #22 against the pass last year and I feel that clearly falls on the secondary. Cromartie was hurt. Fine. But I really don't like pinning my hopes on the chance that he will rebound and reproduce that one miraculous season. Milliner looked good towards the end of the season, but there's no guarantee he will continue to improve, even though I think he will. The secondary sucked last year and going into the upcoming year with the same cast of players and hoping they are better worries the shit out of me. I really think Idzik dropped the ball by not signing one of the top 4 guys available (not including Revis - he was never coming). I hope I am wrong.
What's the deal with Brandon Browner? is he a free agent that someone can take a flier on ? Small risk high reward potential? We could room him with someone that will straighten his ass out. And no Goodson would not be that person Just a thought
Top corners left (no order) Captain Munnerlyn (nickel) Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie ($$$) Antonio Cromartie (hip) Walter Thurmond III Brandon Browner (4 game suspension) Charles Tillman (wrong system) Cortland Finnegan Champ Bailey (vet min) Asente Samuel (vet min)
I actually am on similar viewpoint with LTJF. I also think that, Milliner will be the #1 CB for the Jets starting from this year - sure he will get burned some but he will grow into the role by the end of this year. This alleviates the need for a better quality CB - a stop-gap CB for #2 spot with a mid round draft pick will work just fine - at least IMO. As for Cro, this was almost predicted when he restructured his contract last year - the cap hit changed from 10/10 to 5/15, making it easier for the cap situation last year, and also making it easier to cut this year. He is getting old, and was playing on bad hips last year, so we will have to see how his rehab goes; I wouldn't be surprised if Cro returns, but I don't think he's coming back at near 10m/yr contract. Also, if he returns, that almost certainly means Jets are grooming his replacement with a draft pick this year. And last, but not the least, unless the likes of Anthony Barr or Khalil Mack drops to #18 range, I don't think Jets are drafting defense with 1st round this year. [If I could have it my way, I would really love to see the Jets snagging Anthony Barr and KVN in this year's draft - but that probably won't happen.]
Its possible and Arizona has 2 really good corners which is somewhat interesting as to why thy are looking into bringing in Cromartie. Who knows though, when the contracts in front of him it might be hard to resist.
Cro is in the desert visiting with Patrick Peterson as we speak. The plan is there is no plan. Idzik's "snails pace" ain't cutting it.
I don't see Honey Badger playing much on the outside. I think they want him to cover slot guys, return kicks and play snaps at safety.
Peanut Tillman is a heck of a ball player but not a great cover guy DRC wants too much money Cro is gone Not sure what options we have left
I saw that where Cro was out in Arizona...not sure why as I can't see him supplanting either of the younger guys...who knows what their plan is. I simply think that a healthy Cro' gives us another year or two of production. CB is all about hips so we definitely need to make sure he is/has healing/healed before we sign him...but.....
Has anyone heard anything about Aaron Berry? I know he was stepping into a reserve role well before he injured himself and was looking pretty good in camp. He's still under contract with us. Is it possible that Idzik thinks Rex has what he needs at CB unless something falls into our lap?
Walls has a better chance because he's not coming off a major injury. We're not going to depend on an unproven player coming off a bad injury. We will add a 2 in free agency or add a rookie from the draft and let him battle Walls and Berry for the other outside spot 1. Milliner 2. 3. Wilson 4. Walls 5. Berry 6. Lankster (special teams)
I wouldn't go so far as to say Wilson sucks but he gets penalized waaaaay to often. Mostly because he rarely ever turns and finds the ball. I don't know if I've seen a corner with less field awareness in my life. Putting him on the outside is a bad bad mistake IMO.
