Right he was hurt. But he was their number 1 receiver. That's why they traded away draft picks to get him. If they were that comfortable with their situation they would've rode out with Tate and Rice.
This is bang on!! I want Decker BUT we need to add a WR in the 1st or at the latest a 2nd that can step in and take the heat off him a bit. We are lucky this WR class is as deep as it is and we need to take advantage. Decker and Kerley plus a top 10 WR rookie = legit weapons for Geno
@KristianRDyer Hearing from a league source that Decker is seriously intrigued by Jets, wants to prove that he's not a product of Peyton Manning
Idzik said he wants to build this team etc, but why does it feel like it keeps getting worse? Drop Cromartie, Holmes, lose Austin Howard, possibly add overrated and overpaid Eric Decker? This is sad to watch. Idzik's plan must not be to actually succeed until 2016 at the earliest.
OK, and who did Nicks have the luxury of playing with? Victor Cruz, a guy who commands more attention than 95% of the WRs in the league. Do you think it's a coincidence that Nicks' best year came in Cruz's best year? And how do you justify his decline since? And the year he was a true #1, he barely broke the 1000 yard mark on 79 receptions. I still have no idea how you justify Nicks as a capable #1 but not Decker.
I celebrated when both were released. I just recapped what has happened in Free Agency so far. The point is why drop those, then pay Decker who similarly doesn't deserve the money?
Yes...4p.m. is when he needs to be cut by or we get a 3rd. On the Decker front...ummm...unless someone is reading an article I haven't seen we haven't OVERPAID for anyone...yet... If what I hear is true and he want to get out of Peyton's shadow to prove he isn't a product of Manning then this would most certainly be a good landing spot. BUT, he would have to understand the role. I simply can't see Idzik drastically overpaying this guy. My idea of an O.K. overpay might be $500K to $1 mil a year. Anything more than that I tell Decker to go join the Jaguars or something.
Victor Cruz didn't even play in 2010. I'd even argue that Cruz benefitted from Nicks presence in 2011. Also once Nicks was out for the year in 2012 Cruz numbers and production began to slip. Nicks decline is due to injury. If you say that his injuries are a factor I can understand that point. You realize Nicks put up a 1000 yards in 15 games in 2011. And had 800+ yards while Eli was doing his best Sanchez impersonation in 2013?
Actually they each have 1 punt return for a touchdown and I am pretty sure Decker has a higher average on punt returns and kick returns
500k to $1m over what? I'm assuming you don't mean total comp, that would be less that his vet minimum.
If that's true, then Decker just took a step up in my estimation. If he's got something to prove to others, then he will be extremely motivated and his play will (or at least should) improve. Up until now, I haven't wanted the Jets to sign him at all, but at this point, he's probably their best option for shoring up the WR position. I still wouldn't want them to sign him for #1 WR money, but then I don't think Idzik would do that. They need some bigger targets for Geno. If they sign Decker, I hope they'll add Sanders too, but even if they don't. Decker should help.
