Actually you do upgrade just for the hell of upgrading. It is what successful teams do. And how do you get that paying $7M a year, which admittedly would be a little over his worth, is the same as trading the entire draft for Fitz? There is no rational correlation I can come up with.
I wonder if Idzik is looking at Walter Thurmond any... Guy played great when Browner went down... Could sign Thurmond, Chris Clemons, and one of Decker or Nicks...
That's fair but extending our own guys or moving $ to create cap space for next year just to create cap space is a worthy exercise but we've got a ton of holes that need to be addressed before the summer. I have faith in Idzik, but allowing another hole to open up wasn't optimal. Hopefully Idzik knows this guy Giacomimi and can get him if he likes him. _
Thurmond is a tough one to project, he looked really good at times but also looked awful as well but he is young and gritty. It's all about the contract though what are his agents looking to get him.
Would you guys want Demaryius Thomas if available? Or is he only good because he plays with Peyton too?
I would pass on Decker (he's overrated as many have said; a #2 who will command #1 money), he's the kind of WR who needs a top notch QB to make him look better than he is. I like Captain Munnerlyn (had the panthers D on my fantasy team and seemed like every pick 6 was Munnerlyn!), Revis of course, and maybe Woodley. We need a RT now badly (I think letting Howard get away was a mistake). For me, the top priorities should be: 1) Revis 2) Munnerlyn/Cromartie 3) RT Forget MJD and Decker, we don't need them, better to draft WR and RB. Use the money on Revis instead!
In 2011 he got limited snaps so let's compare Decker's 2010 season when he got limited snaps. Decker 106 yards 1 TD. Kerley 314 yards 1 TD. In 2011 Decker was a starter Kerley was a backup. So yes Decker would put up better numbers. Now let's go to 2012. Kerley put up 827 yards while playing with the leagues worst starting QB in Mark Sanchez. Decker put up 616 yards playing with Tebow and Orton. In 2013 Kerley missed some games and still managed to put up 500+ yards all while playing with a shaky rookie QB. If he stays healthy he might've had a 900 yard season. Decker meanwhile gets to play with Peyton. That doesn't prove Decker is better than Kerley.
Woodley worries me a bit though his own teammates called him out last season so would he be willing to sign a 1 yr prove it kind of deal. Phillips on the other hand is a proven commodity but he is getting up there in age so he'd be a bridge more than a long term fix.
Pierre Garcon is another WR who still produces, playing with a Qb other than Peyton Manning. I wouldn't mind Decker at $6-7 mil/year. But ONLY under the condition that we sign another guy too, such as Sanders.
