Per multiple Twitter sources, Jets & Austin Howard were not able to reach a deal and he now becomes an UFA. Not sure he's worth what he's going to get, but still creates an unnecessary hole that needs to be addressed.

DAMN how much money did he want and how many years was he looking for. Not very good news to start off the FA. Hope
    it only gets better

Cardinals agreed to terms with LT Jared Veldheer, formerly of the Raiders, on a five-year, $35 million contract.

    Shitty tackles getting PAAAAIDD!

    Enjoy your money Austin Howard.

    This is not good.
Jets don't really have the luxury of waiting for Howard to come back around to their offer. They may just need to make a move for another OT stat.

I'd say currently biggest need along with CB. Just cannot screw around with those positions.

Agreed. Good teams have good OL's.

Draft is deep with Tackles, we have 12 picks and Aboushi from last year
    -----------------------------

Nice to see Idzik sticking to his philosophy and not overpaying just because other teams are.

Too true! We're already replacing rg, I doubt Colon is given an offer and if we have to get a new rt that's a 40% overhaul of the offensive line. Not good for continuity.

Fuck. We can't afford any more holes on the line. Bad bad bad.

I'd say there is a good chance Colon gets another 1 year offer. Asamoah wouldve been a nice upgrade, but he's off the market, and we may end up spending large on OT now.

I wouldn't over react to this yet. It could be a case of a player thinking he's worth more than his team does and the Jets saying - go get some offers and come back to us - we might be able to do better.

In a way, it's a good sign. At least Idzik has shown some spending discipline. It stinks to lose Howard though.

Aboushi? Seriously? Howard should have been resigned and Mark cut by now. Idzik needs to make these things happen.

Howard was one of the solid parts of our mediocre line. Hopefully Campbell steps up at guard, I've heard they like what he's doing, and that's one less problem on the line.

Let's hope Howard is just testing the waters and thinks he's way better than he is and no one jumps on it.

Aboushi and/or Campbell starting anywhere on the line next year makes me nauseous. They better get Strief if Howard skips town. Fml

Cannot overpay. When you start to overpay, you drain the red corpuscles out of the body of an organization. Down the line you look up and you are screwed.

The post stated the jets couldn't reach a deal with Austin Howard which was already posted and talked about for 3 or 4 pages at the time.. that was the reason for the link.

Nothing wrong with letting him test free agency, he may be asking for too much money.

If he were all-pro and they did not resign him him, I would be upset.

Idzik is not going to get everything right, all the time.

let's just hope that there is a plan in place, and seeing how things have been playing out so far, I believe there is a plan.

Like he was that can't-miss RT in this league.

See ya, Austin. Good luck with that extra cash you get. You will need every luck that comes with it.
