    Nice signing.

    Per Adam Schefter.

It's a three-year deal for Jets TE Jeff Cumberland, per source. #NYJ believes he will take that next step in 2014.

Awesome, one need taken care of, could draft someone later in the draft for depth.

    Love it!!!

    Awesome!!
I've been getting bored today just refreshing TGG every few minutes lol, so I guess it was all worth it. Now we can look at another TE this offseason from the outside, and we'll be set.

Hmmm I guess that means Ebron will be a top 15 pick and they dont want to move up.

I hope we still add a TE in the draft... Cumberland is more a pass catching TE, now we need to add a more rounded TE that can block and catch! ASJ in the 2nd would be a perfect fit.

Cumberland is a JAG and a #2 TE. OK signing, nothing to get thrilled about, position still needs an upgrade.

    Good! Hopefully Howard is next.

Then we can concentrate on free agents.

Depth signing, nothing more. Let's see what Idzik does in the FA market.

Idzik, now go draft Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the second round and we will be set at TE

I don't think this has anything to do with Ebron lol just signing our own guys who will contribute. Jets also eyeing Pettigrew Dickson and Chandler

Jets brain trust is also high on TE Zach Sudfeld's potential, per team source. Hoping he'll continue his development. #nyj

    Where did you read this?
I was wondering about that actually. NE made it sound like he was the next hottest thing, then dropped him out of nowhere, and proceeded to get a few drives of playing time with us. After that, after the season, you haven't heard anything. It's stupid to bank your success on hopes of young players stepping up randomly, but he's one I really think can. I'd love to hear more news.

Saw the report on Rotoworld and they sourced the NY Daily News. Says they've had "internal discussions"

My feelings exactly. I don't get why people see in Cumberland. I see a career Journeyman type who can fill in at no. 1 if you're desperate but is really a no. 2 TE and actually a no. 3 if you want a TE heavy offense. He isn't consistent, he isn't a great blocker, he isn't a great pass catcher--he is just an adequate TE. I'm glad he is re-signed since we need the depth but if he is our no. 1 TE then i think we can't expect much from that position again. And no, I'd rather we not draft a TE. For some reason the Jets cannot develop TEs. Let's just sign someone decent.....

The fact that you even think there is a possibility that he will be our number one is hilarious. It is pretty clear that we are looking elsewhere for a number one TE.

Fair enough, but who are we going to go sign exactly?
Also, it's not like we've drafted millions of them. Becht sucked, but could at least block. DK was good, but not great. That bum we traded a first round pick for? Doug Jolley? Fuck him, fuck that trade haha.

I didn't say that I thought he was going to be our number one. As it is Cumberland has been our starting TE numerous times in the last couple years and I expressed my concern that he will be again. He isn't a starter and the Jets have been (too) high on him for too long. So what is hilarious? Do you have Idzik's phone number? Does signing Cumberland to a multiyear deal somehow show we WON'T be using him as a starter!?

Good point, there aren't a lot of good signing options. My concern is that we end up with Johnny Mitchell, Kyle Brady, Anthony Becht, or Dustin Keller. These were all fairly costly picks with modest returns (some even arguably busts). That's a pretty good investment in TE without a true playmaker in the bunch. That doesn't include the lower rounds where we have done even worse. Of course that doesn't mean we won't find a TE next time, but for some reason the Jets a good at finding talent at some positions (We can almost always find good LBers in the draft) and other positions we couldn't find greatness with a million picks (TE, QB, probably all the other positions.. Jk).
