good riddance, bum. He was good to marginal to unexciting to just plain awful over his Tanny front loaded gift wrapped, poorly though out deal here. "hey holmes, want to be captain? cool, man it's all yours." Ex Jet to next Jet.
I'm not so sure I'm gonna be partying when this happens. He deserves to be cut because of his monstrosity of a contract, but he's also the best WR on the roster currently. As sad as that is, (is he even in the top 40 WRs in the league?) the team doesn't get any better with him gone. I will party when it looks like they make improvements to the roster.
The way Holmes played, he wasn't the best WR on the team. His play was uninspired and sometimes he was mediocre at best. Kerley was much better than Holmes and at this point in their careers I don't think that changes. If the Jets sign a FA receiver and then draft one in the first round, I think they'll be in a much better place without Holmes. Heck, even without those moves Holmes is addition by subtraction.
Kerley is more productive, Nelson is more productive, all the tight ends are more productive, the running backs are more productive...shit, Holmes is comparable to Hill at this point. Hill and Holmes stats are near carbon copies last year. He got really bad fast, moving on...
Holmes was absolutely not our best WR. Kerley was miles better than him, and so was David freaking Nelson. Santonio just doesn't have it anymore. He's gonna be on the wrong side of 30 and not to mention he's a jackass off the field. Also his compete level is pathetic.
Honestly I wont miss him, he gave us some great moments but he also gave us some selfish moments like in the Miami game, 49ers game (Yes he got hurt but we've seen guys get KILLED and still hold on, he tossed the ball in the air away from himself.)
I thank Santonio for all big plays and for nearly helping us reach a SB. the last couple of years have been tough but good luck to him and hopefully he goes to an NFC team.
I get so impatient in the offseason. I too, would like to see them cut Sanchez and Holmes ASAP so we can move on to bigger and better things.
Not going to miss him as an individual player but unless we replace him with someone better (which, really, shouldn't be that hard) it's still a hole. I read somewhere that we could have up to $50mil in cap space this year. Not sure who has to be cut though, I'm assuming Holmes, Sanchez and Cromartie for starters.
I was lucky enough to be in the stadium for 2 of the greatest moments in jets history that Holmes was a part of. the GW TD vs. Houston and the incredible back of the EZ toe tapping TD to extend the lead at NE in the 2010 playoffs.
