...especially considering the way he's played the last year and a half.

Face it. Quarterback play will usually dominate discussion about a team.

Sanchez met with the Jets to discuss the future, which helps support my theory that the Jets are not compltely sold on cutting him as it seems to be in the media. I believe this meeting was over a potential restructure or designed plan for the Jets to be able to enter the 2014 season with Sanchez on the roster at a lower cost. I do not believe anymore that Sanchez will be cut, unless we have a viable alternative option on the team which means either we sign a guy like Schaub or we draft a QB. If neither of those happen then Sanchez will probably be retained. Lets say we end up drafting a QB, then I believe we will see him get cut, but I dont think they are going to cut him until the alternative option is actually on the team

No to Mark again. And stop trying to rationalize re-signing him. Geno will not officially get the starters job (but he is probably in their plans) because the Jets after getting burned by doing the same thing for years with Mark now at least on paper want competition. And don't want to give a Qb any kind of a comfort zone (as they did with Mark). As for Flynn he can't seem to ever win a job, he always gets beat out. But when he's on the field in a regulation game he's not bad. He played pretty well for the Packers late last season. I think that's where he will sign. Everybody else ends up cutting him but the Pack.

The days of being patient with Qbs might be over mostly because of the rookie pay scale. You no longer have to give high 1st round picks the kind of guaranteed money they commanded in the past. When you think about it it's stupid to give away seasons just to develop a player who might not ever be great or even good. I even read something about Buffalo not committing themselves to EJ Manuel after only one season, too. And you never know even with RG3. If he regresses in 2014 he might be out himself with Wash. So keeping Mark around forever is a losing proposition. You can't keep saying he might still be great when after 60 starts he's been way below average. And if you want to continue making excuses for him be my guest. He has to work with the talent available and be a leader not a follower. If he was a good Qb he'd get the most out of them not the worst like we've seen over his career.

Where? they named him starter next year last I checked.

Even with the current pay scale its a bit dumb to just give up on a guy after one year. they haven't even had a full NFL year to adjust to, its literally impossible to judge any players ceiling off one year or pay no mind to giving time to developing them.

theres a compromising amount of time to give a prospect to show his stuff, usually indicated by progress.

Sanchez despite having an upward swing after how rookie year has long since passed that and need to be treated as what he is, a mediocre player without much upside who the organization can absolutely move on from rather than try to make him work again.

I did read something somewhere about the Bills questioning Manuel and not necessarily guaranteeing he is going to be the starting Qb. But here is something about it but not conclusive http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/8331/ej-manuel. I think he will be their starter but if he struggles he will be in trouble.

If Sanchez is kept, I hope that Idzik and Rex are fired the minute the 2014 season ends.

Well the whole "Idzik trying to distance himself from Rex" turned out to be a myth. Now it might turn out that "Idzik trying to distance himself from Sanchez" might just be another myth.

The only thing that really stuck out for me in this article is that Sanchez was not rehab'ing at the Jets facility, But will now be doing so. It's also encouraging that they're opening the lines of communication so early, without actually stating their intentions.

The damage from Mike T is almost undone. In less then a year Idzik has a chance to basically completely overhaul the offense, either with Sanchez and Geno, or without. We have a lot of picks, and in hopefully a few short weeks will have a ton of cap space. If Mark restructures we don't have to reach for a QB at any point and we won't seem desperate to FA QB's coming in to have another chip to play in contract negotiations.

This is a win win. I think this is going to be a really interesting offseason for the Jets. I'm excited.

I'm dead serious. No way Sanchez should be kept. If he is, that proves to me that Idzik is yet another moron hired by the moronic owner.

This would be the only reason I would want them to open the lines of communication with Sanchez. No way he should be brought back whether for the Jets' sake, the fans' sake and/or Sanchez' fault.

If I had to choose between Sanchez or Vick I would go with Sanchez. With Vick you get what? A guy that can't play 16 games, has been a turnover machine just taking a snap, and lost his job with the Eagles numerous times.

He woul dbe a 1 year backup rental while the team tries to see if Geno can play better with better talent. I say see if Sanchez and Smith look better with improved offensive weapons around them. I have no issue with to 20 something QBs battling it out especially when one of them has 4 playoff wins and enjoys playing in NY already.

If Idzik finds a way to get Sanchez to stay on this roster and restructure his deal to save us a ton of money, he is a complete genius. The smartest thing this team could do is keep him on board if he reduces his salary.

Many of you think it is crazy, but that's just not true. If Sanchez is cut, yes we save a lot of money, but now we have only Geno as a viable option and we would either have to waste a draft pick on another qb or sign a seasoned veteran, like Michael Vick, in free agency. If Sanchez takes a pay cut, you have a guy who can compete with Geno, knows some of MM offense from this last offseason, is familiar with coaching staff, facilities, and players, and he has NFL experience and is still young. Why some of you would hate this move is beyond me!

Sometimes you gotta put an uncalled for hate behind you and just look at the facts. Bringing Sanchez back at a much lower salary to compete for the job is the best thing Idzik could do. Why waste a pick or waste money in free agency for a guy nearing the end of his career? That would be just stupid

And many of you are saying some bullshit about how Geno would feel like ownership doesn't believe in him or trust him. That's so wrong. If Geno thinks that ownership believes he is the answer, then he's got a screw lose. No coaching staff would believe he is the answer after one season that had severe ups and downs. If he's the guy for the job, then he will beat out whomever this team brings in to compete. Prove you're the guy.
