Why does bringing Sanchez back automatically Idzik is "latch"ing his tenure to Mark? Does this rule apply to any veteran QB he brings in to compete against Geno? Would he be "latch"ing his future to the likes of Shaun Hill, Tavaris Jackson, Chad Henne...etc. if we sign them?
I think Idzik will want to distance himself from Mark Sanchez. I dont know for sure at all, but its just a feeling I have. Sanchez was a big part of the old regime. This is the new regime. Idzik brought in a second round QB and made him the starter. I believe Geno would have been named the starter regardless of Mark's injury. I dont think Idzik wants to move forward with Mark on this team. No evidence, just my opinion.
I dont know John Idzik, so nothing I am saying is a fact, merely my opinion. I think Idzik drafted Geno to be the starter, and the Sanchez injury gave him the perfect scapegoat to do it. Whether it was the right or the wrong decision, thats what I believe happened.
I think he had say in who started at QB, yes. But based on your childish response the last time we discussed Sanchez, I'd rather not get into this again. You have your opinion and I have mine, its all good.
You sound a bit naïve so I'll try to be be kind. If John Idzik wanted to draft a QB to be the starter, in other words, the guy at the most important position in football to lead a franchise he would have (i) drafted him at 9 or (ii) drafted him at 13 or (iii) traded up to 14 or 15 or 16 or 17 or 18 or 19 or 20 or 21 or 22 or 23 or 24 or 25 or 26 or 27 or 28 or 29 or 30 or 31 or 32 or 33 or 34 or 35 or 36 or 37 or 38. You do not sit back and hope your starter, your franchise QB will be sitting there for you mid-way through the second round. John Idzik sat on his hands and took the BAP throughout this draft. He took Geno because he was good value at 39. He didn't draft him because he was convinced he was his starter. And he was not clairvoyant enough to know Sanchez would get hurt. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Rex Ryan picks the starters. Ok, that didn't turn out to be as kind as I had hoped, but neither did your hopes for what you think Idzik was hoping for. Don't confuse your hopes and opinions for reality. They aren't necessarily congruous. _
What I can't figure out is why we collectively allowed the Sanchez Sucks thread to be revived under a different title but with virtually the same topics of discussion. Again a few posters are driving this thread and keeping it alive day after miserable day.
While I agree with you 100% that Idzik didn't draft Geno with the intention of him being a day-1 starter and an absolute cant-miss stud franchise QB prospect, there were rumors that Idzik was trying extremely hard to trade up into the last few picks of the first round and the first few picks of the second round to take Geno.
And no sane coach puts his starting QB into the 3rd quarter of the 3rd preseason game with the 3rd stringers. Sanchez fans love to spin that one.
I think I have read two intelligent posts in this thread. This is not a debate about Sanchez's career or if he should be the opening day starter. If Sanchez can be brought back at reasonable price it makes sense to bring him back with the huge question marks around Geno. If Geno steps up and becomes the man great Mark never sees the field. If not you get to see if Sanchez can revive his career. If neither happens we are drafting another QB anyway. Love or hate Sanchez think he should or should not be the starter today he looks like a good option if Geno fails again.
It doesn't make sense. There are various reasons why he should be gone (J.Stokes) there are QB's that will be available that skill wise are on par with Mark or even better than Mark. The bottomline is this. We have a really good idea what kind of QB Mark is. Why waste time with him? Let's develop Geno.
Pretty naive to think Idzik had no say in the QB decision especially since Rex was trying to keep his Job. Not really that big of a stretch to see Rex was proving a point. It was a hell of throw by Sanchez on the play he was hurt. Again, that is all mute Geno sucked worse than Sanchez and we still need a QB we either draft one or bring in a Vick to start or hope Geno steps up and Sanchez can back him up. Bringing in a JAG that can't play anymore ie Brunell is a mistake.
What point was he going to prove? Even if Sanchez played well against third stringers how would that be any different than any other 3rd string QB doing so? Look Idzik, he's almost as good as Brett Ratliff! You're saying Rex a) was forced by Idzik to have a QB competition b) was forced to continue that competition into a critical juncture in the preseason c) somehow thought that if Sanchez played well against future insurance salesmen it would have convinced the guy who forced a & b that Sanchez was the guy. d) didn't have the authority to name Sanchez as the starter. All of which, BTW, is completely dreamed up by Sanchez fans. These aren't facts, they're spin points that you guys keep in your hip pocket. The way you pass them off as "not that big a stretch" is cute though. Your argument is based on Rex not only being a fucking idiot, but being an Idzik puppet. Oh, and it's MOOT point, not mute.
