and find it..but how about the blizzard of 96. Remember when we talked about how it stalled off the coast of N.J. and just spun itself to death..no real movement north from then on..wow..:
RAP model..takes us out 18 hours..so lets say around 4pm tomorrow..with still major back end snow to come from central nj north: oops..wrong model..one second.
Have to say Philly on north with this over a foot that is now on two short range models..that strip runs just west of NYC. That is not the forecast guys. Thats a lot of front end snow before it changes to sleet and freezing rain and back to snow and you start to wonder if many in NJ are in a range of 10-20 now I95 and WEST.
I mean yes...from just north of Trenton...a 30 to 50 mile strip up to western bergen county..that strip will continue into conn. That area is now in line for 15-20 if you asked me..maybe more in some localized areas. Again...that until late afternoon early evening...so that line will go into the lower hudson valley because that banding will stretch north and then east.
Well my school here on LI just announced a delayed opening at noon. I think that's ridiculous, but I can't just not show up.
FIRST OFF..CONGRATS DREW ON THE CLOSING!! FM..they are going entirely on early snow and changing to rain in time for school..and quite honestly..maybe all rain by then? Ballzy move to say the least because it could be sleet and freezing rain by then? Totally rain? Do they ever have delayed opening and then decide to close?
When we look at that one map..we wonder how accurate..so what we can do is look to the south and see how Virginia is doing because areas in VA have 18 to 24 AT LEAST projected on that model..and heres the deal...areas in central VA already have 8 inches of snow and its heavy snow right now..so in the check box...thats check one for accuracy. Amazing how much snow is falling in VA right now..and heading right towards CMAN and then central Jersey.
Also, here is a good radar. You can see heavy snow in South Jersey right now..and its snowing as far north as about 20 miles north of Trenton. Snow should start in about 60 to 90 minutes in the city..north jersey..about 90 minutes for the lower hudson valley. RADAR: http://www.wunderground.com/radar/r...ling,+NJ&showstorms=0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0
And one thing I was wrong about...the models had the snow starting out gangbusters for everyone...thats not the case..starts out light for the first hour before picking up in intensity.
every storm I find a new toy..and this one is GREAT...just put in your zip code if this is not your area to follow up to date snow totals live...radar..etc. Better yet..this: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/hydromet/erEventDisplay.php
I don't know what they're going on, but from what I understand most of Long Island expects a bit of snow and then rain. I'm sure they watch news12 or whatever BS weather girl is on the TV at the moment. Last storm they delayed to 11, then closed, so it has happened, but the one before that I stayed until 3 and a 30 minute commute took over 4 hours.
Dont get me wrong FM..it could go rain for awhile just before noon..but still..so many other things with this storm that dont make sense to be out in..but hey...NYC and L.I. beat to a different drummer.
heard this from a different website: Lee Goldberg from WABC in NY just upped his NYC snow total to 10 inches. Said that new data suggested he bump up his totals. This will over perform.
and the numbers continue to rise...so lets just stick with it for north jersey..12 to 18.....pockets of over 20...Lower Hudson Valley too..because this map only goes out to tomorrow evening 18 hours out: Holy crap:
