the way these storms are coming out of the gulf, its almost like hurricane season just started a few months late
I'm a bit of a history buff. I always look for obscure historical landmarks when I'm down that way. On one trip to York, I was obsessed with finding the site of a Revolutionary War POW camp. Sorry for hijacking the thread. I know we're supposed to be talking about the weather - the weather was nice that day!
I can't tell from that what's gonna happen on LI. I tried to read the NAM, but the site (http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-acces.../north-american-mesoscale-forecast-system-nam) was just super confusing. Any ideas?
Shit! Good thing I got all my business done on the way in tonite. Got the driveway and sidewalks slathered in salt, full gas can, full tank of gas. If I can get a good picture tonite, I'll post it. At any rate, you'll get one in the AM when there's daylight.
Neighbors suck. Mine isn't as bad as yours, but he's no prize. I hope you make it okay. I think you have the right to cut whatever part of his tree hangs over your property. When the weather cooperates, I'd give him notice, get the dopey things cut, and send him the bill. Pruning big trees isn't cheap, which is probably contributing to his dickness.
Good for you. I think I need to get out there early, shovel, and malke my way to the bus stop, heading for the city.
FM...here is what I can tell you about the NAM. Its a medium range model that used to be dead on..not sure what happened but a few years back it took snow totals and doubled them. Its an 84 hour model..goes out 84 hours only. It gets, usually, better at around 24 hours where it starts to correct its overdoing of precip totals. Now, USUALLY..around now...it becomes much better. Some may argue about that but its proven well this year within 24 hours..no doubt about it. Heres the issue Im having with it..is it counting all frozen precip as snow? You ask some and get different answers..if you are in an all snow zone..who cares. You are not..so lets look at L.I. on the map.
My math was never so great ,,,but I believe this thread is approaching 170,000 views,,,,,,take a bow Jay ! And rite now there are almost 100 people viewing it,,,,take another bow Jay,,,,,,ps does it start before midnight here ? Gotta walk the dog after and she hates the snow
This ain't the Number One Jet Board on the Internet for nothin! Hell, we even kickass when it comes to weather!!
FM..now looking at that with the naked eye..to me..very eastern LI gets may a few inches...and as you get to Queens..it gets close to 10..maybe more. So its a huge question if it counts sleet..because Queens is going to sleet and freezing rain for awhile. I need to repost something about this storm that is VERY important..I typed it earlier and have no mental power to explain it again..one second.
CBG...I take a bow...but find it comical...I just looked down at the guests...lol...probably my family? Cant be..they do not know about it. I rarely check down there but that many guests makes me nervous. Let me repost that writeup I was just talking about..and GUESTS...JOIN UP FOR CHRIST SAKE.
EVERY few pages I have to put this in..because its going to save a lot time with the posters coming in here and saying ...is the storm over? This storm is going to dump a lot of snow from nj north after the change back to snow..the last 1/4 of the storm will be back to very heavy snow.

Here's a synopsis of the Blizzard of '96, from Wiki, the Keeper of All Human Knowledge: Sounds like Jay's forecast.
And now we get into the real high resolution short range models..this is the HRRR that goes out only 15 hours from 9pm..so noon tomorrow this model says this much will be on the ground:
While the numbers down south make sense..Im not so sure about the numbers just east of lets say Trenton N.J. That red. Maybe..but thats a lot of snow. I also think up north is about 2 inches more at that time..up in north jersey by noon should have more like 7 or 8..at least.
CMAN..I never look down there..but you are correct. Takes one second to join folks..tell me your town...you get your own weather person to abuse. Seriously..join guys.
lol..nope Tom..dont get me started on my favorite storm of all time. The biggest difference..and there are a few..was the temps...heavy snow at 14 degrees.
