Chances are one of our 4-7 round draft picks will be a QB but Garoppolo will be gone by the 3rd maybe 2nd.
I'm comfortable enough to say we need to bring in someone as well as retain him. One of the bigger mistakes we made with Mark was him never having to look over his shoulder at a possible replacement. There should be some decent QB talent available in the 3 rd to 5th that will provide excellent depth and motivation to our current starter.
We've given him a year with absolutely no offensive threats at his disposal. Let's see what he can do with better players around him. Wouldn't make us any worse off!
Get some valid weapons for Geno and let him start. Add a valid QB option through draft or FA to make the depth chart respectable and take over mid-season if Geno isn't developing. Anything else seems a ridiculously over-the-top reaction to a team that finished 8-8 with a rookie and unprepared QB and a roster starved of offensive talent.
The best I can hope for is Geno starts and is twice as good as last year. Which puts him right at average.
We will be getting a FA QB and drafting a QB in the mid rounds like Boyd or Murray. The FA will have a great chance of starting because Rex has to win to keep his job. We need to draft a TE, S, WR and Oline
For what it's worth....Kerley played in 12 games this year. In those games the Jets were 8-4 albeit against mediocre competition. Total W-L for those 12 games teams had a 91-101 record. Geno's stats: CMP-211 ATT-353 YDS-2573 CMP%-59.8 TD-12 INT-12 RUSHING TD'S-6
Lots of newbie posters here seem to admire mediocre quaterbacking. Seems like a good day to catch up on my work.
BB, I don't admire mediocre Quarterbacking myself, and Geno Smith was rather poor this season, but it was his rookie year. Don't you think he could look better in time with more experience and talent around him? He looked better late in the year. This isn't Mark Sanchez who looked poor for 4 seasons, some of those years with way better talent.. this was the kid's rookie year.
Let geno start and give him some reveivers. If he fails get a new qb in 2015. He is just 2nd round pick.
Funny you say that considering Kyle Orton is your favorite QB. I recommend catching up on that work of yours.
i think he will improve and b a good solid qb who can get the job dun dont think he'll ever be a elite qb tho
Way too early to say whether or not Geno's the long-term answer. And who knows what the front office is thinking (and planning) at this point.
I'd like to see the Jets sign Vick and make Geno compete with him for the starting position. Geno finished the season better than he had been doing but I'm hardly sold on him. Vick would probably win that competition fairly easily but if not, we'll know Geno earned it.
You really want to sign an injury prone QB that has only finished 16 games once in his career? I understand for competition purposes, but Vick's best days are clearly behind him.
