I just find it odd First they say Geno was causing a disturbance. Then it was revealed the flight attendant pulled out his headphones. Then they say well he must have done something to make the flight attendant do that. Then the airline apologizes Then they say well they're just trying to save face even though they know that Geno is at fault. It's like they want Geno to be in the wrong. Don't get me wrong if he was acting like an ass I'd have no problem calling him out on it. I just find it odd that they don't know what really happened but yet they've made up their minds that Geno was in the wrong.
Geno could give his whole salary to poor starving kids in Africa, and people will still think he has an agenda... They just mad that Sanchez is on the L train out of here in the next month.
when people jump to conclusions before all the facts play out and go screaming in every post what a punk and/or ass he is they look like fools. so when this happens and the airline absolves geno of any wrong doing they can't back track and admit they were wrong. so now they will bend the whole story into behind the scenes meanings and hidden agendas. evenifall the evidence points to the contrary
You are still assuming Smith did something wrong. If it was in fact as he stated that a flight attendant pulled his earphones out, Smith then requested to speak to a supervisor and then left the plane to speak to a supervisor how is he at all wrong.
When these youngsters get married or have a significant other someday, they will understand that sometimes the non-apology apology is the best way to go and smooth things over. You have a disagreement with said significant other, you are in the right or mostly in the right or maybe just partially in the right. You apologize, never admitting wrongdoing because you did no wrong, put a little bow on it and it goes away for both sides. Had Virgin Atlantic admitted to wrongdoing, thrown the crazed flight attendant under the bus, fired her publically and offered 100,000 free miles to Geno then maybe I'll b believe Geno was just sitting there completely innocently and a crazed flight attendant--with no provocation attacked him. But until then it's obvious that this is just a negotiated PR move. No egg on anyone's face, Virgin says the customer is always right and Geno says thanks for taking it seriously. But folks can continue to believe that a completely docile, well behaved traveler was thrown off a plane or voluntarily left a plane and decided not to get back on the plane for no reason due to his behavior. Just not my experience, but maybe other folks have had a different experience. _
Because he's ON the plane and has plans to travel all the way across the country. Then he actually gets off the plane and doesn't take the flight, cancelling his plans and actually leaving the airport. Why? Over some Mickey Mouse bullshit. The details about whatever petty issue there was with the headphones is almost beside the point. He can't just let it go to the point of continuing the flight? I say that's very immature. That's the way I see it, and that's not because I hate Geno Smith or anything...so don't go there if that's what you're thinking. I'm not assuming much, except that he was being immature. I just explained why. Anyway, somebody close the situation apparently said that an attendant asked Smith to remove his headphones and an argument ensued. Dunno the details myself, but he's going to cancel his whole trip when he's actually on the plane over THAT? He could have talked to a supervisor at any point down the line...yet he goes through all that hassle of having to talk to the cops, cancelling his trip, and not to mention that he should have considered how high-profile he is and therefore the negative publicity it would generate by pouting about a minor issue that didn't go his way FOR WHATEVER REASON. This is all considering the BEST case scenario too.
Don't get me started on some of the shit I did that I regret when I was in my early 20's. I love it when people forget the things they did in their "youth" and judge others as if they were always the way they've become now. Let's face it, he's still a young guy.
Nice response but exactly what to expect from the source. Hey--don't like my posting feel free to put me on ignore. I honestly couldn't give a half baked crap about what you think of my opinion on this matter. _
Ftr I am hardly a Sanchez Fan, but this situation with Smith does concern me. While his supporters are free to point out no one here knows the complete story, we do know some of it. We know he left the flight after an altercation with a flight attendant over him having earbuds in. Really? I find it interesting that no other passengers on the plane have come forward to say Smith was being abused, just as I find it interesting none have come forward saying he was acting wildly inappropriate. Obviously in either case if one or the other happened, we would have a much clearer picture who was at fault. But I am still left with the fact that he got off the plane. I fly often enough to know that is a rather rare event. I can't say I've ever seen that happen. You get your ticket, go to the airport, go through security, wait, get on the plane, and what happens next that would lead a reasonable person to get off? I don't get it, and it raises a concern about Smith's maturity and how he is handling being a public figure. Does that mean he's a thug? Of course not. Why do some here feel the need to go there? And of course the statement from the airline IS only a sweep under the rug. They did not apologize. Whether this incident has any real importance depends on what happens with Smith going forward, but there was allegedly that sexting thing, too. We shall see...
An apology certainly is about accepting blame for your offense but it in no way equates to the possibility that both parties did not playa part in a situation that requires an apology. Or have you never been involved in. A dispute where both parties apologized to one another? Of course you will retort that since Geno has not apologized he must then have done nothing wrong. Maybe, but Virgin is only responsible for offering their apology, and their apology in isolation doesn't mean inherently that there isn't an apology due from Geno and both parties had some fault in this situation. Beyond that, if you don't think corporations assume responsibility, either by apology or action, for things simply for the sake of customer service or public opinion, stokes qualification of you as naive is certainly accurate. Likely the attendant over reacted and that is what Virgin is apologizing for. That doesn't mean Geno did not do anything to cause the initial need to confront him, just that he likely was not the party responsible for why it escalated.
by no means am i naive. i have been around long enough to understand how the world works and when to look for ulterior motives. this just is not one of those times. i am not dealing with speculation just the facts in front of me fact is something happened to cause geno to want to get off the plane and speak to a supervisor no witnesses have come forward to say what that was fact virgin investigated the incident apaologized and admitted geno did not receive the best service he could have received. thats it, thats all i see here, call it naivitity call it homerism whatever. but the only people i have seen digging this deeper than it should have are the same ones calling him a bust from day 1. they will be the ones using speculation to propel their arguents
And if Geno did something wouldn't we have heard something by now? Not even one passenger came out and said Geno was doing ______ which lead to the flight attendant pulling out his headphones from his ear.
You did the day of the incident as a "source", but overall I dont think many give two shits who Geno Smith is outside of NY to bother coming out a week later with details attached to their name. As for the Virgin letter, it was nice of them but didnt really say much. All and all I guess we'll never know what actually happened and its time to move on. One article continues to say headphones were pulled off, another continues to say that something different went down. W/e. Geno escapes another offseason drama.
As I mentined above, while your point is corrrect, it is also the case that no other passenger has come forward to say that Smith was being abused.
no, that is not a fact; it was one report of what happened. there are contradicting reports that he was kicked off the flight. choosing to only believe one of the reports is not a fact. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...portedly-kicked-off-plane-164817930--nfl.html here is a report saying not that Geno left the flight voluntarily but was kicked off, and Geno did not know why. the only fact is that he left the plane. why he left is what nobody knows -- was he escorted off or did he leave by his own choice to talk to a supervisor as you claim (but do not support with facts)? again, simply because Virgin apologized for their own actions doesn't mean their wasn't any fault in Geno's actions as well. one does not negate the other. people's motives are irrelevant to whether theirs, or your, argument is supported by facts. there are holes in your arguments and claims as well.
We have a player who's been passed out in a drug/gun filled car, and another who likes to park in a Target store lot stroking himself while watching shoppers going in and out of the store, and we care more about this? Earbuds? Please, lets talk about our sixth round draft options.
Geno is only high profile to Jets& WV fans and Sanchez hero worshipers. Most of America has no feelings about Geno currently. What isn't fair is how some here just do not get it. They have an agenda against the guy and no matter what is reported they twist it suit their agenda. The hope here is that they follow their loved one to whatever team he winds up with.
SPORTS Airline apologizes to Geno for ‘misunderstanding’ By John DeMarzoJanuary 23, 2014 | 8:42pm Airline apologizes to Geno for ‘misunderstanding’ Geno Smith Photo: Getty It may be the offseason, but that didn’t stop Geno Smith from scoring a touchdown on Thursday. Virgin America reviewed a dispute between the Jets quarterback and a flight attendant and apologized to Smith, absolving him of any wrongdoing. “We believe [the dispute] was the result of a misunderstanding that regrettably escalated unnecessarily,” the airline said in a statement. “We’ve apologized to Mr. Smith for his experience …which could have been better — and we’d welcome him back onboard any time. As an airline that prides itself on our guest service, we take incidents such as this one very seriously.” Smith had been scheduled to fly from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last Friday, but he got into an argument with a flight attendant who asked him to remove his headphones. Smith asked to speak to a supervisor, then left the plane on his own and talked to police at the gate. Airline officials initially told The Post that Smith was removed from the airplane for refusing to stop talking on his cell phone, but the airline’s investigation revealed otherwise. “I really appreciate that Virgin America took this seriously and looked into this matter and followed up with me,” Smith said in a statement. “I look forward to flying their airline again soon.”
