This is great news for the Jets, in my opinion. Going to be tough for Buffalo to find a guy of equivalent ability to replace him.

I never thought much of Pettine when he was hear (let's face it, it was Rex's defense). If you read the 'Collision Low Crossers' book though you'll probably have a different opinion on him. I think he'll make an excellent HC in due time.

In due time doesnt fit with the Browns, just ask Chud.

How does that press conference go? "We are happy to announce that our 10th choice is going to be our head coach". He's the guy we wanted all along.

i get that he wants to be a head coach, but the browns are where coaches go to die.

The Browns have talent and picks. W/ the right coach that could be a quick fix, he'd be walking into a great situation if they don't fire him. No expectations, young talent and 2 1st rd picks I believe.

they have a ton of picks in the first 4 rounds. It should be a very big year for them this offseason.

2 firsts, their second, 2 thirds and 2 fourths. in a draft that is seen as very deep this should be a great head start to rebuilding if they don't fuck it up, but it is Cleveland.

Smart move by Pettine...Worst case (probable) scenario- Sign a 4 year deal, get fired after 2 years, collect 2 more years on his contract and go to work for a real team. People aren't going to fault him if they fail, because it's Cleveland and he can set himself up for life.

If by some miracle they hit the jackpot in the draft at the QB position, then well he could find some success. Either way, no lose for him. That's why it was dumb for all the guys that turned them down to do so.

Good hire for the Browns. Best of luck to him.
Maybe he can deal Gordon for a 4th

Pettine is similar quality to Bill Belichik at the same age. I think it's a good hiring by the Browns. They're 50/50 to be very happy with the hire. Belichik failed with them but maybe they'll get the flip side with Pettine.

Edit: and of course Belichik failed with the Ravens but he failed in Cleveland.

I just hope he doesn't go for Byrd in the offseason to play opposite of Ward.

I am really happy for Pettine. He was the star of the Low Crossers book and so likeable. This really validates his decision to move to the Bills to get out of Rex's shadow. I wonder if the book had much effect on the Browns owner and FO in picking Pettine.

This leaves the interesting possibility of Rex reunion with Pettine becoming the Browns DC under Pettine in 2015 if Rex gets fired after 2014.

The Browns have some talent. With Pettine running the defense and some offense with Hoyer or whoever is throwing to Gordon they could be very good very quickly. They have a ton of draft picks. As a Jet fan its hard not to root for Pettine.

There's actually a good amount of talent on that team.

The funny thing is last year the rumor was that Pettine was the key leak in the organization. I'm not saying it's true because nobody really knew what the truth was. But it did seem he was pushed out the door even though Rex said all kinds of nice things about him.

At least he's gone from Buffalo. He was the best thing to happen to Buffalo in about 3 or 4 years.

Pettine was a snitch, I lost respect for him but I can gain it back if he can take that Daily News cocksucker with him to CLE!

Good for Mike P. Hopefully Cleveland organization gives him the talent and allowance to coach instead of rushing things along. Cleveland has some nice parts, would be interesting to see where they go in the draft.
