Brady was pretty bad today. He missed a lot of wide open receivers today. Some bad decisions as well by the coaching staff.
That's a Payton Manning Offense your talkin bout. Not many have success against him. That being said Pats can go you know what!
Well Brady didn't help my argument today. Some of Brady's worst playoff performances have come in the AFC Championship recently.
Brady's playoff clutch mystique was fed by him feasting on inferior teams. The last time Brady played a playoff game as an underdog and the last time he played on the road were both in the 2006 season AFC title game vs the Colts when the Colts won and went in to win the SB. Since that game , the Pats have been favored and home in every single playoff game until today. In that stretch, he lost to the Ravens and Flacco at home twice ( and it should have been three times if Lee Evans had hands), to the Jets and Sanchez, and twice to mediocre Giants teams that barely made the playoffs. During that stretch, he does not have a single win against a team that was very good. So cry me a river Pats and Brady apologists for having to play today's game against a better team in their building. I thought Brady doesn't need weapons because he makes everyone so much better? He did not have a horrible game, but when it still was a game in the first half and the Pats had a chance to keep it close , Brady badly missed 2-3 wide open receivers. Those were key plays n the game. He got his two TDs against a prevent defense in the 4 th quarter. So now that Manning, for the first time in a long time, played with the better team, out come the excuses for Brady. I'm sorry, but Brady is a very very overrated postseason QB who has now gone 9 seasons without a title. Name me the last time Brady was the reason the Pats won a key postseason game against a good team. Not Tebow and Broncos a few years ago or a fading Texans team or SD with LT and Rivers injured. The list goes on and on. He has not come up big in a long long time.
Your point that he beat bad teams in the playoffs is an oxymoron. It's the playoffs every team is good. I do agree on a different reason though. Brady is overrated for early postseason success making people think he is infallible. Manning gets ripped for not playing well but a lot of that can be tied to poor defenses. But I think that truly both QBs postseason wise should be rated the same. Both are great in regular season and decent in the postseason but not good enough to win every year.
I did not say he beat bad teams. I said he beat inferior teams, like the Tebow led Broncos, or the Jaguars or a beat up Chargers team or a young Colts team or a fading Texans team. There is a big difference. Name an elite team - a 11+ win team with a strong offense and defense - that Brady beat in the playoffs since 2004.
feasting on inferior teams:rofl2: playoff teams are inferior teams. You know the team he had yesterday wouldn't have been a playoff team w/o him- same thing w/ 2006. The man elevates average talent year after year after year, he's never had a collection of weapons like Peyton has now. first time in a long time? 90% of Peyton's career he's played w/ the better team and Peyton has never had to play w/ what Brady had this year, if he did he'd be nowhere near a SB. Congrats to peyton for finally coming through, he's getting closer to Brady. Still has a ways to go but he's getting closer. he did what he was supposed to do yesterday, beat a team that was half as talented as his team at home. If only he would have had days like this more often in his postseason career he'd be with Brady or ahead of him.
who are these great teams Peyton beat? mediocre Den & KC teams 2003 mediocre Den team 2004 mediocre KC team 2006, awful O in Bal 2006 NE w/ Caldwell and Gaffney as main weapons 2006 Rex Grossman led Bears 2006 rookie led Jets 2009 mediocre SD 2013 NE team w/ half the talent of Den 2013
I'm not hurt at all, I just deal in reality. it's comical how people will think this puts Peyton ahead of Brady.
Manning surpassed Brady as a playoff performer a year or two ago. Playoff team success, on the other hand, still obviously favors Brady. 18-8 vs 11-11: that is a non-issue.
was it 3 INts that directly led to 17 pts in an OT loss or was it the INT to cost his team the SB that moved him ahead of Brady?
It was Brady' s poor performances. This will not go far. I don't have time for 1,200 posts on the matter. I once favored Brady as the better postseason QB. I do not anymore. I also realized Manning was unfairly slaughtered for some of his TEAM's losses.
Matter of fact, I'd rather publically mention that a particular TGG moderator posts on a particular competing website (so that he have another hissy fit and ban me from the site for two years this time) rather than engage in some long drawn-out Manning vs Brady debate with you. I could discuss it with people who are fair, though. People complain about the way you argue all the time. At some point you have to recognize the problem.
Its true though. Brady has completely dipped in the postseason, during the regular season we see this furious attack, brady going crazy, but in the playoffs he has just gone completely inept. Like his demeanor is not the same, his play is just bad, his offense has been below average. He cant play a complete game either, he just has long periods of nothingness. Like what was that first half yesterday? What was that second half against the Ravens last year? What was the first half against the Jets in the playoffs? How can he go long stretches without putting up ANY points. Even in the Super Bowl against the Giants, they opened with a TD drive, got to 17-9 with about 10 minutes left in the 3rd and they dont score a single point the rest of the game? What? how can you explain that?
Manning was great yesterday. I didn't think Brady played particularly bad, he just had a hard time getting on the field because the Broncos dominated time of possession. Denver / Manning were spectacular. The Broncos this year, because they have scored so quick all year, were susceptible to being caught not being patient. ie- when they aren't scoring so quick, Manning forces the ball or the recievers panic and try too hard to make the big play they've had all year... Not yesterday. Manning slowed that game down.. He took the whole play clock down every snap and had no problem nickel and diming the Patriots to death, especially on 3rd down where he was tremendous.. They beat N.E. at their own game. This thread is cringe worthy on so many levels, especially coming from us Jets fans (it makes us seem jealous and petty).. It's almost embarrassing to read. These are 2 of the greatest players of all-time. Regular season and playoffs. They can't help that they've gone toe to toe with each other in their era. Montana was great but he never had a guy like Brady or Manning to compete against year in and year out. These are G.O.A.T. level quarterbacks, competing with each other. Someone has to lose.
so again, when did Brady get 14 STs pts then throw 3 INts leading to 17 pts and lose in a 3 pt game? when did Brady throw an INT for a TD to cost his team the SB? Brady has not played very well in postseason but until yesterday what had Peyton really done to pass him? people complain about me b/c I roast their weak arguments. That is not my problem. This is a perfect example, you post nothing and think you bring better points. he has not been great in postseason, very up and down but he's still led his teams to 4 title games and 2 SBs in that "down" period and most of the time w/ mediocre talent to throw to.
