The Associated Press continues to have problems with the voting process. Wilkerson and Justin Smith got treated as tackles even though they are ends. Two years ago, Smith made the 1st team at end and 2nd team at tackle or vice versa. That was thoroughly ridiculous. Vontaze Burfict is an outside linebacker who got enough votes at inside linebacker (actually only needed one) to make the second team at that spot. No second team QB because Peyton Manning was a unanimous selection. I don't put a ton of weight on 2nd team choices but making the 2nd team is better than not making it. Just so people know, the 2nd team is not really a team. It actually is just a bunch of guys who got at least one vote but not enough to make the first team. Wilkerson was the 4th best end this year in my opinion. I felt Quinn, Watt and Hardy were better. Wilkerson will have to continue to progress and stay healthy to nab 1st team honors in the future. He is the best Jets lineman since Joe Klecko.
Didn't see enough of Quinn or Watt to say how they played, but Hardy seems an unnatural comparator. They're not doing the same job.
Wilkerson is an end in a 3-4 base but in our nickel and dime he plays mainly tackle thus he should have been a first team all pro at tackle. I don't understand why the NFL almost always shits on 3-4 players.
Because the job of a 3-4 DE is to eat up blockers, but Wilkerson does so much more then that obviously. Watt and Wilkerson are prob the most versatile DEs in the league right now. Congrats Wilk! Let's extend this beast then finally I can get a Jets jersey
This is why Smith was on the 1st team and 2nd team at two different spots a couple years ago. Wilkerson sees time at end and tackle and being a 3-4 end he is more similar to a 4-3 tackle than a 4-3 end, etc.
Quinn is also not comparable in that sense. I guess we could do this- Best 4-3 ends- Quinn and Hardy Best 3-4 hybrid versatile linemen- Watt and Wilkerson And that is if people want to go there. Some do not think Wilkerson was a top 7 lineman this year.
The 2nd team is a complete joke though - Eddie Lacy as a 2nd team All-Pro? LMAO over Matt Forte? No QB?
Sweet redemption for Mo after the Pro Bowl snub. He's in select company. I love how there's no 2nd team QB because Peyton was so dominant this year.
The 2nd team is silly as I explained above. There are 50 voters. All they do is select their own first team. From those votes, we get a 1st and 2nd team. The 2nd "team" could also be labeled the "Others Who Received Votes" team but that would be too unwieldy of a title. Manning got all 50 votes for top quarterback. Nobody else received a single vote. This is why there is no 2nd team QB. Numerous safeties received votes. The Associated Press almost never selects right tackles. That is not how I would do it, but I don't have a say. To me, a true all-pro team would feature one left tackle and one right tackle. The defensive line situation with the All-Pro teams has been very sloppy for a while. It is sloppy to see one guy at end and two others at tackle when all three are used similarly. In the end, this is a tool to give people an idea of who the supposed experts felt were the best players. Also, these all-pro teams are used to help make arguments for why or why not players belong in the Hall of Fame. If Wilkerson turns out to have a lengthy Hall of Fame-type career, his 2nd team spot this season will help make his case.
Excellent. For a while I thought he got screwed, but yeah, he deserved it. Time to hook this man up with an extension!
Speaking of that when is Joe Klecko going to be inducted into Canton. It is a fucking joke that he is not in already.
Probably would be in already if any of the following three things happened- if the Jets won Super Bowl 16 or 17 (years that featured Klecko at his peak and Jets made postseason both years) if he played and was effective for another 2 or 3 years if sacks were an official stat in 1981 (Klecko had 20.5 that year)
