With all the speculation in the NFL about the Jets making a play at Manziel, I can't help but gauge what this forum thinks. The guy is pure talent. Has a hell of an attitude that would fit right into our city and seems to just love the game. Players will go to war for him and he seems to have the tangible to be a great NFL qb. On the contrary, he is small and he will need to rely heavily on his pocket passing, not his legs. With Idzik saying Geno is not the starter right now, obviously competition is still in the making. With all the draft picks we have and all the money to play with in free agency, would you mind a trade up to get him? EDIT: This would be a trade up with a splash in free agency for receivers and more offensive talent in the draft. Manziel would be drafted with more talent on the roster.
A year ago I didn't want to draft a QB. I wanted to draft some weapons for the future QB and figured we would still be so bad we would have a shot at a top QB, including Johnny Football. A year later, still not completely sold on Geno and I could go either way on drafting Manziel now. I still think the best course if action is to draft talent to surround our future QB and figure out whether or not Geno is that guy. Might end up regretting not taking the chance now while we have it but might also be kind of wasteful to have to young QBs on the roster without significant weapons to work with. As the question posed is should we trade up for him I am going to say no because I think we should keep all the picks we have. If, however, Manziel somehow falls to us at our spot I would be a little more conflicted on how I would want the team to go.
I wouldn't trade up to get Manziel, it's gonna end up being the same crap but with a different QB to blame, let's not turn into Cleveland lol. We don't have the offensive talent on our squad right now to give a rookie a chance, we should just ride it out with Geno and see what he has while we build the skill positions back to being at least decent.
I'm a huge Manziel fan, but for me it depends on the price. we need to fill a lot of offensive holes. even Manziel couldn't win with our team and I can't help but think we would have to give up a second, third, fourth and high pick in 2015 to move up to get him. huge risk. those are picks we could have used to get offensive weapons. unless of course we make a huge splash in FA, I'm talking about grabbing Golden Tate, Hakeem Nicks or Jeremy Maclin, Jimmy Graham, etc. it all depends on the price. there's also a scenario where he falls in the draft. if he falls out of the top 10, I would definitely consider it then, because the price won't be as much as trying to crack the top 10.
No. The only QB I would even consider trading up for in this draft is Teddy Bridgewater, and I wouldn't do it for him.
I wouldn't trade up but if he fell to us I'll take him in a heartbeat, In my opinion he's much better than geno.
Fellas, this is all dependent on us making moves in free agency and in the draft as well. It would be a trade up for him with more talent on the offensive side.
Loved Geno in college and think he will be a good quarterback with weapons but the idea of having Manziel is very intruiging. I wouldn't want to trade up but if he fell to us I wouldn't be mad.
If we were offered a Sanchez-like trade, I would take it in a heartbeat. We literally gave up nothing in that deal.
The question is what the Jets do if Manziel is there on the 18. A trade up has disaster written all over it.
No I don't trade up. I don't think the Jets would or should do that. Now if Johnny Football falls to us... I would be very interested in considering him
I would not trade up period in round 1, no less for a QB unless this is some can't miss guaranteed stud QB.
Where is all this "speculation"? I have not heard a thing. The only QB that we should even think about trading up for is Bridgewater, and thats only if he falls out of the top 10, which wont happen. Trading up for Manziel would likely take our 2nd and 3rd. At this point Manziel is most likely a top 10 pick. He could even go top 5. With no 2nd and 3rd, it would be extremely hard for us to build around a QB. As much as the idea may make many of you cringe, Geno will likely be our QB next year. I really dont see us drafting one in the 1st. And to be honest, Geno was pretty decent when Kerley was on the field. He is about the only WR that would be a top3 WR on most other teams. If we add some pieces around the QB (being Geno), we might actually see a good amount of improvement there. If not, next years class should be pretty good as well.
HELL NO. I don't want the jets trading picks to get one guy, we're building through the draft and thats how it should REMAIN. moving up for him would mean giving a high pick during some time in the near future, its not worth it.
Lol trading up for a Qb in the first round does not = "competition" for Geno. It means Idzik has no confidence and Geno and is trading up for our future starter. We should only pick a Qb in the first round if we are confident that Geno is not the future. Any pick later and that can be justified as "competition," however. Trading up is almost never the answer. Also, Manziel will not fall to 18.
1. Trading up = Recipe for disaster. 2. Johnny Football? Fuck him. 3. That said, Geno? I don't think he's a franchise QB either. Carry on.
Sincerely depends on where, if he's somewhere around 12 or so and it only takes a 3rd to move up, id definitely trade up to get him. If it requires multiple high picks to move somewhere in the top 8 or so, then I'd probably have to say no. And not to say he wouldn't be worth that type of trade up but we have so many holes that need to be addressed that it could really come back to bite us in the ass.
Agreed 100%. I don't think he falls out of the top 10, but if he does it warrants serious consideration.
Ok - I am not against every kind of trade up. If Jets can trade up by packaging 2nd, in such way that they get a higher 1st and lower 2nd back, then there is no net loss of picks - I do not mind this kind of trade ups.
