I never understood why folks get so upset about that. The fans have been there with the team longer than most players and staff. They support it through ups and downs. They invest time, money and mental health for the team. They pay outrageous prices to see the team live. Without the fans the team would not exist, so yeah fans are very much a part of the team and have every right to say "We". It's similar to referring to the United States and saying "We the people". We don't run the government, but we are Americans. It doesn't matter, the phrase only annoys the pessimistic fans, so we should all keep saying it.
