and if I remember right the Jets were in sole possession of the last WC spot going into like week 11 or 12.
The nice thing about beating the Pats is they lost the #1 seed and home field advantage throughout by just one game. BAHAHAHA We beat the Pats and knocked them out of the #1 seed. We beat the Fish and knocked them out of the playoffs. We beat the Bills and knocked them back into the basement where the belong. We beat the Bucs and Browns and got their HCs and GMs fired. Overall, a pretty busy season!
The "free wins" thing makes me laugh These games happen every year and definitely even out Besides, there's evidence that Rex knew about the Pats pushing on FGs and tipped off the officials, which is why they tried the 55yarder in the first place, so if that's true, that's hardly a "free" win, it's earned.
These two sentences in bold is the point I was trying to make by bringing up the 2 free wins. You can't simply look at the games you "should have won" without looking at the games you "should have lost." The original poster and others in this thread want to only focus on "1 extra win" is all it takes and you cant look at it in a vacuum, as it does even itself out. The Jets could have easily lost 2 or more games just as they could have won 1 more. That is the point.
"You are what you're record says you are." -Bill Parcells Most accurate comment ever made regarding a football season
Nobody's saying that they should have won. Just that they could have, and we were close. Next season is looking promising. Luck is a factor in almost every NFL game at one point or another. If the Jets had a little bit more luck on their side, they might have made it. It matters not, at this point. 2014>>>>>
That is a great fucking line. Also applies to this logic that the players love their coach when the team's record sucks.
And if the rabbit hadn't stopped to smell the roses he wouldn't have wound up as lunch for the bear. in a 16 game season just about any team can look at 1 to 3 games and say if only this or if only that and we would have been in the playoffs. The reality the Jets were a very fortunate team to just get to 8-8.
If Sanchez didn't play against the Giants we would be getting ready for a playoff game this weekend. But that didn't happen and now we get to see Geno's dick making the rounds of the internet.
Yeah no doubt at all that Sanchez could have had a better 7 game run than Geno had mid season. If Sanchez put up similar numbers to what he did in 2011 they Jets would have been in the playoffs - even with the turnovers. The running game was improved, receivers were better, I think Hill would have had a more consistent season, the 3 and outs would not have led the league, defense more rested, and I think he would have really performed nicely in MM's offense. Basically looking at could Sanchez have put up 1 more win than Smith. Geno had 4 interception free games all season, he had a 4 game run where he completed 29 passes - total, he put up QBR games of 15, 7.8, 6.5, 4.1, 0.7, 3.8, and 1.6. he completed under 50% of his passes in 5 games and tossed 6 pick 6's.
Meh, you never know. The Sanchez vs Geno argument is pointless. Sure, Sanchez could have had a better mid season than geno. But he could have also had a worse early and late season. Sanchez has struggled through periods his entire career. There's no reason to think he wouldn't have continued to be inconsistent and cost us as many games as he wins us. Geno Smith had a better year than Sanchez rookie year and also his 2012 season.
It goes both ways... yes we could have won any of those games that we should have won and made it... yet just the same we could have lost the few we had no business winning... I'm just glad we ended on a high note, and have so much to look forward to in 2014
The 2012 was a disaster - you could have put any QB to ever play the game on that team and they don't win 8 games. I really believe Mark with Marty as the OC was set to have a very solid season. I think Hill would have also been much improved because after a promising start Geno just lost the ability to throw the ball which killed Hill.
Can't wait for Hobbes to come in here and blame it all on week 2. Jets shot themselves in the foot so many times.
It reaally sucks because we were starting to get hot 3 wins out of last 4 games,We could have went on a run until we ran into Denver and lost
