umm, no. Howard was excellent this yr and is young, he needs to be resigned right after mo gets extended. colon was ok, plus now he has a torn bicep and was a penalty machine, let him go. See if we can get a stopgap vet and draft more o-line. Maybe campbell or odouche (sp?) can contribute next yr.
howard needs to be back, colon is a tough call if he wants any guarentees. if he wants a pay for play contract thats ok. line continuity is a big thing as we saw with the dip in mangold and fergusons play this year. first with ducasse and than winters between them they definitely suffered from lack of continuity. howard has done well he last 2 seasons with 2 different guys at rg so i think he would be ok if a new guard is inserted in the line up. but starting 2 new guys on the right side may be starting us in a hole next year.
Your off your bird to have any notion to be on the fence with Mo - he is no doubt their real true leader on the defensive unit and with the fact that that he is improving leaps and bounds every year, you want to franchise him, rick losing him and start all over again building the D line? I'm glad your not in their front office... No fu&king way Jose'
I re-sign Howard. Not to say he's a great player but there aren't alot of great RT's in the game right now & he's at least solid. Colon I would try to upgrade. He's a decent run blocker but doesn't anchor or move well laterally in passing game.Geno needs a clean windshield. He also has an injury history & another surgery won't help. Was great as a 1 year stop gap..but time to move on.
I'm not on the fence about him being a Jet you misunderstood. What you don't get is that the Jets own his ass through the end of 2015 at least with a franchise tag. He had 10.5 sacks not 15. He was quiet last few games. I know he's a beast. All I'm saying is that if he intends on holding the Jets hostage for a RIDICULOUS contract he can be Pissed off all he wants Jets should only extend him within reason. He should get paid for the 10.5 sack season he just had not the 15-16 sack season he might project for himself. If he wants that much let him go prove it another year. That is all I'm saying. Wilkerson being resigned is my #1 offseason priority. we are on the same page there. I disagree on Howard. Rewatching the games, especially on the all22 cam, the guy was horrible. He wasnt as bad as winters for example, but he was bad. his pass protection was abysmal. he run blocking anytime it he had to go second level was non exsistant. I dont want him here next season, even as a backup. Colon, i love his leadership, if he would take peanuts id bring him back as a backup just for that. but like i said, for me, i wouldnt bring either back.
10+ sacks for a 3-4 DE who spends alot of time at DT is pretty spectacular. how many other 3-4 DT's put up those totals? look at someone like haloti gnata who plays a similar position... his career high is 5.5 sacks
Im not trying to debate anything here would love for the Jets to have Mo long term. I just don't want to see a RIDICULOUS contract like the one Revis got last Year. These days can't pay 1 single player on defense that much. Remember Sheldon Richardson and Damon Harrison will want to be paid in the next couple years too! How much money do u invest in the d-line? I'm only suggesting that the Jets play some hardball if his contract demands are absurd. They have leverage. The Giants have operated this way for years with their star players and it has paid off for them Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
thats why you sign him NOW. because you have the leverage. its not a walk year. it also gives wilkerson security, knowing that if he got hurt next year he'd be covered with a long term deal. waiting til next year you risk havign to franchise him(which would cost a ton), pissing him off, a holdout, etc..
it is very difficult for us to play cut them or keep them----so many factors how healthy are they-----knees---surgeries---most of these guys are just a few years out of college----maybe they are 24---26----still growing mentally physically-----were they improving ---regressing-----watching on tv or at the stadium cant tell if he missed the block or his teammate was in wrong position and forced him out of the play when the draft is made these guys now get 4 year contracts----so all teams are in same position of signing or not resigning I would like to keep holmes if his body is strong enuf-----mo wilk---folk last year we were told jets had very little cap space and wound up only with willie colon who was good---also picked up david nelson during the season---antwon barnes was good till he got injured----don't know how long his contract is for I hope we have enuf do-ra mi to pick up quality guys the jets have a 53 man roster plus 7 on the taxi squad------jets can have 90 guys on team till first cut down date in august meaning jets can add 30 guys as gm I would add between fa the draft and udfa 2 rb 2 wr 2 te 2 ol 2 qb 2dl 2lb 2 db and 14 other guys to make up the 90 and let them fight it out on the practice field-----rex can pick them ---I am there with my adding machine to keep us under the cap
What do you think about extending Sheldon Richardson now, after his rookie season? His rookie deal was 5yr $10.5M fully guaranteed, about $2M/yr. What if Idzik offered him a new 6 yr, $30M ($5M/yr)? We'd gain his 6th/7th year, his prime, at $5M/yr, about 1/2 of what it will cost IF he continues to pan out and we wait 3 more years. He'd get an extra $2-3M/yr now, which could be tempting to a young buck. My feeling the instant a new player shows a ton of future brilliance grab him and lock him up ASAP on the cheap.
FYI Colon needs to have surgery to repair a torn bicep. I think read somewhere how that marks the 4th consecutive year in which he's had to have major surgery during or following the end of the season. I'm good on Colon for next year; I rather resign Vlad and try him at RG.
I'm not too sure about this but I remember reading something that said under the new CBA, players who are still on their rookie contract can't start negotiating until they are 3 years into their rookie contract.
IMO the Jets must sign these guys to multi-year deals. The OL NEEDS continuity. Howard is as solid a RT as there is in the NFL and Colon is good as well. I really don't understand all the Colon bashing other than the fact that he is a penalty machine. Other than that, he's a solid RG with a mean-streak, and a true leader. Keep'em both. The line needs to gel and build rappore.
Agree Only positive about Colon is leadership, but if he stays 3/5 of line will be 30 or over D/brick & Mangold not going anywhere, so Colon could be gone
