I think everyone here is in agreement with the fact that the Jets exceeded everybody's expectations this season.. A projected 2-14 or 4-12 team with no talent somehow found a way to get to 8-8. Seeing how we accomplished this with a depleted roster, what do you think the expectation should be going into 2014? We have a plethora of draft picks and a lot of cap money to sign some quality starters in free agency. Assuming the holes that need to be filled (WR, TE, OL, OLB, S, CB (Cro gotta go) ) are filled, what is the realistic expectation for this team next year? 10-6? 11-5? Playoffs? Super Bowl or bust?
If we spend the money our potential is unlimited. If we play it safe in free agency I do not think we can win the SB next year. There is no one way to build a winner. If we make good decisions and have a couple lucky breaks we can build a great team within the next year or two.
i expected 4-12 this year, next year i expect 11-5. That schedule aint shit. We gotta sweep MIA and BUF for that to happen though. I think we could take 3/4 against the NFC north teams, and at least 2/4 against the AFC West.
Free agency shouldn't be used to build this team... Look at the Pats, Steelers, Packers, Giants... Never make splashes in free agency and year in and year out are contenders.. We gotta build a young team through the draft and grab maybe one or two big time guys in free agency... Once in a while you get a gem, but these guys are being let go from their teams for a reason.
Way too early for this but I think we're likely to have an up year next year. How up is going to depend on how we align the talent going in and how lucky we get on injuries. One of the reasons I want a vet backup QB is that Geno has a real chance of getting hurt playing in the most effective style for him right now. The running is going to bite us in the ass if we don't have a guy ready to step on the field and game manage for us in November/December next year. The rookie most likely isn't going to be ready to step on the field and win if he's called upon. Most rookie QB's go "who? what? where?" in their first few starts and that would likely be enough to put the kibosh on a 9-7/10-6/11-5 playoff run.
If we make the corrections to the offense then I'd say we should be on par with the same level as the Colts of 2013
This is all about Brady. The Jets can unseat the Patriots in a year or two with some luck but it's an uphill battle. When Brady retires the battlefield becomes flat.
We can't fix every hold in one off season no matter how many draft picks we have. That said, if Geno can he a top 20 Qb next year, I definitely expect to contend.
I've been hearing that for half a decade. Every year it's been Brady is getting old. Yeah, not so much. Until Brady retires, it probably won't happen.
The holes aren't as big as people make it seem, we have 4 good draft picks first, second, and two thirds.40 million in cap space and even more if we Cut Sanchez and Holmes. The only free agent on our roster worth bringing back is Cumberland. So that leaves us needing atleast 2 Wrs in free agency 1 in the draft, a saftey in round 3 , a tight end in round 2,add another linemen in free agency maybe a cheap veteran db . I think we can fill the holes
10-6. Would be bummed with anything less. QB & WR ought to both be better; defense could still improve...10-6.
High expectations. I think our team will be very very balanced, with a lot or skill players on D. September can't come soon enough.
I hope Dee Milliner takes that next step and becomes an elite CB. Looks like he is on his way the last few games. The NFL is tough. Hopefully the Jets improve the roster and stay healthy. If they do that, they can compete for a playoff spot.
