I've never been a fan of trading up in the draft. I think there are very few times where it can be justified. Getting a franchise QB is the main time that I think it's acceptable. He is an amazing player. He's extremely accurate and can fit the ball into small windows, plays very well on 3rd down and under pressure, is athletic, has a great arm, can make all the throws, makes great decisions, can scramble and get yards (ran the ball a lot in high school), and is tough. I'm curious. Would you trade up to get him? If so, what would you be willing to give up in terms of picks and players to get him?
Hes good and all but we would have to give up so much to get him. You are looking at this years 1st, next years 1st, a 2nd, a 5th, etc. Look at the RG3 trade.
STL got three first round picks and one 2nd from the RG3 trade. It would take something similar for Bridgewater. Is he worth it? I think yes. Will it happen? I think no, too many QB needy teams. The Falcons could trade down but I don't see them passing on Clowny. Bridgewater may very well stay in college for another year also.
True franchise QBs are worth whatever you have to give up to get them. That said, The Jets might not have to give up that many draft picks. I'm not saying I would do this at all, but for instance, what is Mo Wilk, Richardson, Coples or Ellis worth? With QB being the most important position on the team, I think a fair argument could be made for trading a top defensive player to acquire a franchise-caliber QB. It would be very risky, and I have no idea what those guys would get in return, but I would think that Mo Wilk would be worth multiple high picks. If Jax has the #1 pick, they might be willing to take Mo or Mo plus a pick or two for the #1. Again, I'm not saying I'd do it, but I'd certainly have to seriously consider it if Jax made that offer
Bridgewater is not physically built for the NFL. Giving up anything to move up for this kid would be a mistake. 6"3 and under 200 lbs is not a good thing for an nfl QB. I know im among the minority when it comes to the discussion on this kid but he wont last in the nfl and i wouldn't touch him unless he dropped outside the top 15-20. Personally id rather see our picks go to putting tools around Geno and if he still struggles with out improvement next season then the front office should invest another draft pick into a starting QB.
Who said I was. I'm just a fan who wants to have a franchise QB that will make us a consistent winner, a perennial playoff team and a SB contender in the next 10 years. You probably are happy with a .500 team and playoffs every few years. That's fine. _
Please don't put words in my mouth. I said i wouldn't touch him either trading up or unless he fell outside 15-20. I also base my opinion on the fact i dont think he physically handle the hits an NFL QB takes on a constant basis. RG3 is a great comparison who i also felt the same way about. Its not about building around Geno its about already having a 2nd vested in Geno and whether he works out or not the tools need to be there for who ever the Qb under center is.
The Jets don't have the ammo to trade up for Bridgewater on the 1 or 2. After that they could engineer an expensive deal for the 3 by giving up their 1 and 2 this year and 1 and 2 next year. If the Jets finish 7-9 they probably have the 14 pick. If they finish 8-8 they likely have the 19. That's either 1100 or 875 points to start with. Then the 2's are worth either 440 or 390. So for this year's value the Jets have either 1540 or 1265 to start with. Next year's 1 is worth 500 points. Next year's 2 is worth 210. Combine the value of the 4 picks and you wind up with the Jets having either 2250 or 1975 to play with. That's the 3 pick in the 7-9 scenario. In the 8-8 scenario the Jets have to give up their 3rd this year and next also. And there you have it. A franchise QB prospect nobody can argue with throwing to nobody.
