well any team that has Howard has to play that way. No other recent big man has been quite like that, really. Shaq was dominant inside but I don't recall his teams doing this. Orlando's entire success was built around Howard inside and then 3 or 4 shooters. His teams wind up shooting a lot of threes. Houston has Harden, Casspi, Garcia, and Parsons. The Lakers didn't quite know what to do with him. The Spurs have to be scared of the Rockets now. They've played twice this season, both times in San Antonio, and Houston won twice, the second game resulting in a rout (San Antonio even gave up with several minutes left). The Spurs were at full strength both times.
Yeah I was referring to how the Knicks played last year. Harden came through last night in the 4th. Yeah still a long way to go til the playoffs, but if Howard keeps on having that second step and playing like Orlando Magic Howard, he's a handful for any team. I changed a few things at the end of my post while you were replying. The Knicks of course shot a lot of threes but I don't consider the Dwight phenonemon just a team that likes to shoot 3s. It has to have the dominant big men surrounded by shooters.

Lakers at Utah tonight. Their lineup tonight is going to be as bad or worse as some of their lineups last year when all the good players were injured. Pau is out, joining Kobe, Nash, and Blake. So the lineup: Farmar-Meeks-Wesley Johnson plus two big men. They can choose from Shawne Williams, Ryan Kelly, and Jordan Hill. I'd guess Hill starts, not sure about the other one. Or maybe they only use one big man.

The new crop is nice but they have yet to make that impact that the guys from the 2004 draft class had. The same folks who were dominating the NBA 5 years ago are still dominating today. The Thunder had the run to the finals but the past champions have been headed by guys who were all drafted before 2004 which is going to be 10 years come this spring.
The best team is Miami, and that's true for them. However, the next three best teams: Indiana- George, Hibbert, Stephenson Portland- Aldridge (2006), Lilliard, Batum Oklahoma City- Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka So younger guys are in starring roles all over the NBA. The 'old guard' is Miami and San Antonio, being led primarily by guys drafted in 2003 or earlier. But they are the exceptions. Also, you mentioned the 2004 draft class. That was mostly busts. The only superstar was #1 pick Dwight Howard. The first round was bereft of impact players.

What im saying though is if you look at who is winning the titles its all guys who were drafted over 10 years ago: 2013- James 2012- James 2011- Dirk 2010- Kobe 2009- Kobe 2008-Pierce Garnett Allen 2007-Duncan Parker 2006- Wade Shaq 2005- Duncan Parker Ginobli 2004- Detroit All the guys winning the titles were from a different era considering we are now in 2014. So while the NBA has seen new talent, the new talent has yet to go all the way.
