Finally somebody with some sense and knowledge. This QB derby stuff is horrible for the progress of any QB and the team. There are not enough reps in OTAs in training camp to have a two QB competition, let alone the 3-5 QBs some on this board are talking about.

Absent someone falling to the Jets in the first round, which is unlikely, the Jets should give Smith another year, but name him the starter going into the offseason and TC. They should draft a QB in the 3rd or 4th round because they have 11 picks and you never know what you could end up with. They should also bring in a veteran as a back up, not to give Smith competition or to "mentor" him (which is complete BS - that is what a QB coach is for), but to have on the roster to win games if Smith is injured.

As you go through the history of the NFL, QB controversies and competitions are bad. A young QB like Smith needs all the reps he can get, and he deserves a season with a real NFL offense, not the crap he had this season.

Are you people serious with talk of Sanchez, Schaub, and other QBs who are NOT rookies and are getting run out town.

The Jets had QB competitions the past two seasons and the offense and QB have suffered because of it. It was a circus in 2012 and little better in 2013. It doesn't do anybody any good, except the beat writers, to have these daily reports out of OTAs and TC about what each QB did in each practice session. It is asinine. It's time to give Smith the time and the talent and let's see what he can do.

If they want to do a Calvin Pace style (cut first, bring back for less money) type of deal, I don't see why not. First they have to cut him, then after a time period they bring him back on a smaller money non guaranteed contract.

Yes, I am REALLY SURE I want Sanchez as far away from the team as possible.

Geno is about to wrap up his rookie season, with the worst offense in the league. And he's about the same numbers Mark has put up over his career.

    Build around Geno.
Having ANY sort of offensive weapons would massively propel this team forward.
    I feel sorry for MM.

I want another year of Rex & Marty, but with a priority to the offense in both FA and the draft - our front seven will keep us alive in a lot of games regardless.

Yeah, didn't Schaub throw more pick 6s than Geno did?

Time to move on, for both parties. Mark seems like a good guy and wish him the best, but keeping him here next season is the same as getting back with an ex after an ugly break-up. It's easy to do, but ultimately moving on is the best course of action. If he stays, the second he throws a pick, all the ugly feelings will come right to the surface immediately.

IMO Geno has shown me enough that he's part of the conversation about the QB position going forward. Not to say that he should be handed the job in any way, shape or form. Bring in a true veteran that can compete with him. This Garrard bullshit pisses me off. He's occupied a roster spot and has done NOTHING on the field, ala, Brunnell. Enough of these life coaches taking up roster spots.

You think Andy Dalton is a franchise QB ???

He's up-and-down despite top offensive talent.

Let me see him win 1 playoff game, home or away. I think the Bungles are 1-and-done again this year.

Yup. Seems like you gotta have a Brady.

But then again, Sanchez beat him in the playoffs.

Imagine if Sanchez had a chance to use half the weapons that Stafford has ? Probably would be in the Super Bowl.

and he'd throw a pick 6 at a critical juncture and lose the game.

Tell that to Baltimore and San Fran. You probably need an above average QB, but you don't necessarily need an elite one.

Exactly. Ignore his implosion down the stretch in '11 and the entire'12 season. He was so good the team was dying to make Geno the starter this year. Go back and look at his playoff stats again. Keep in mind how good their run game and defense was. Do you not remember every analyst in the world saying all the Jets are asking him to do is not lose the game?

its best for the team and Sanchez to move on... he's not worth the effort to keep barring a lacking amount of worthwhile veterans which seems unlikely.

he WILL be cut. no if ands or buts, restructuring is a waste of time and impractical.
