The NFL keeps talking about expanding the playoffs to 7-8 teams per confrence.I hated the idea but right now we would still have hope if they did do that
Worst idea in the world. But they'll probably do it. Roger Godell just might be the worst commissioner in the history of sports. I can't think of another guy who has done more to diminish the quality of his sport during his tenure.
Before this is closed, I just want to say that we did about as well as we could have reasonably hoped. We just need the weapons, and at least competition for Geno, if not a 1st round draft selection at QB. Rex should stay. I looked at this as year 1 of a rebuild, and he needs a winning season next year to stay HC. We shouldn't make big splashes, but rather cost effective, positive value signings. Finally, it's time we stop trading picks away. We should get at least 10 picks, and I'm sick of seeing GB draft so many players, and get great depth. I want my NYJ to build that way.
To put a few more unworthy teams in the mix? Could you really gain any satisfaction from this team getting a playoff berth? The idea about getting into the playoffs is to get the opportunity to COMPETE, not just get a plane ride.
Summary of this season IMHO (As we move from in the hunt to in the toilet) Minuses 1 The decline of the Sons of Invisible in the second half 2 The return of Cro to his non tackling, non hitting style of play 3 The decline of the OL with jailbreaks especially thru Winters and Ferguson on almost every pass play 4 Ed Reed showing up as a useless piece of washed up garbage, worse than Eric Smith 5 Hill and Holmes disappearance leaving the Jets with a WR corpse instead of a corps Plusses 1 Somehow relevant until now with a rook QB and predicted by the geniuses to win 3 games 2 Chris Ivory 3 Wins over the Saints and Pats 4 Second half improvement of Dee Milliner to where he is arguably our best DB at this time 5 Good learning season for Smith to build on in year 2 on the road to becoming a solid NFL QB. Overall QB play this season was much improved over 2011 and 2012. Credit to Smith, Mornhinweg and Lee 6 John Idzik cleaning up the Herculean mess left him by Tanny getting the Jets to 40 million+ in cap space this offseason with 11-12 selections in May. Needs to finish the job by releasing Holmes and Sanchez as soon as possible after this season 7 Solid coaching job by Rex and the staff deserving of a long term contract extension
Let's water the shit down even more...... The JETS are not good enough to make the playoffs. Plain and simple. :jets:
The NFL should play the regular season just to eliminate last place teams. Then they should play a 12 game playoff schedule for each team leading into a post-playoff tournament that then leads into a ranked double elimination round robin followed by the Super Duper Bowl to cap things off. Really what the NFL needs to do is to contract by 4 teams and go to a two division per conference alignment with 4 teams making the playoffs in each conference - the two division winners and 2 wildcards.
Bumping this thread. If these results happen, Jets miss out on the playoffs because of the Ravens bull shit heroics two weeks in a row in Weeks 14 and 15. If they had just lost one of those two games, Jets make playoffs if these scenarios happen in Week 17. Jets over Dolphins Bengals over Ravens Browns over Steelers Chiefs over Chargers At least two of those four are likely, and all four are possible. Thats how close the Jets got to the playoffs this year. Not that its an accomplishment to get close to the playoffs, but its remarkable that a team that was projected by ESPN to be the worst team in the league this year was four week 17 scenarios and 61 yard Field Goal away from making the playoffs.
making the playoffs this year would be more credit to the AFC sucking and it would only hurt this organization in the long run by giving us a lower draft pick and a false sense of value. I don't want to hear any of that "get in and anything could happen" crap. Geno would get demolished in a playoff game.
They said that about Sanchez as a rookie, too. They also said that about a 9-7 Giants just a few years ago. If you don't want to hear any of that 'get in and anything could happen' "crap," you are lying to yourself. I don't think the Jets would have made it to the AFC championship or anything, but I absolutely would have chosen to make the playoffs over not making them. If you don't choose that every day of the week, you have a losing mentality and deserve what the Jets have given you the last 40-some years.
