Whatever QB we'd be choosing, would be a reach no matter what.

I don't watch much college football, but before Mariota decided to stay in school, Carr wasn't even mentioned as one of the top QBs in the class. Now he's mentioned to go early in the first. It's like if a top QB decides to stay people just say the next QB is top tier too. IMO, there is no sure thing QB in this draft. Bridgewater is up there, but everyone else is just another prospect. Nobody has impressed me much.

That is key. These games are the last chances to really audition Geno before we have to make a choice about investing yet another pick in QB or sticking with Geno "turnover machine" Smith and perhaps even bringing Buttfumble back to compete. No matter what the FO decides it will affect the franchise for many years to come, so I am desperately hoping they get this right.

Exactly how I feel. I never root for my teams to lose either, but these two games should be about experimenting. Give every scrub a chance to play. If they rise to the occasion then you may have something. If not, then that is one less player you need to try out next year. And if we lose and get a higher pick then so be it. That will allow us a better chance to get whomever we want OR trade back for even more picks (or, even better, add a couple picks to the next draft as well). All in all, I don't see much upside to winning these games.

Now excuse me while I don my flame suit....

Sure good players are available in different spots, but are they the players you need? Moreover, are they wold beaters? Sure things? I know football is different, but consider the NHL in the '80s, the year before Mario Lemieux was drafted. The penguins rolled over and made sure they got first pick. The Devils played out the season and got second pick. the penguins got Mario Lemieux and the Devils got Kirk muller. Both were very good players. the difference? Muller was solid, Lemieux was an all-time great, game changing legend!

So you're not wrong that moving down a pick, or a few picks will mean we still get good players. The problem with your argument, however, is that it puts at more at the mercy of other teams. Would you have wanted to select Bledsoe or been left with Mirer? Or Manning and Leaf? Eek! and if the player we want will be there a bunch of slots lower then trade down and collect more picks. There just isn't any downside IMHO. Conversely, there is only a small upside to winning: setting the team up with a winning state of mind, a precedent, etc. but does that really carry over from season to season? I'm not so sure.

I hope we get toasted in both games. I don't want there to be even a hint of a chance of retaining the Same Old Same Old we have now. We have to try a different route. IE new HC, QB, WR, S, OL, etc..........

8-8 to 6-10 every year is not cutting it.

I agree but it's really not much of an issue. Brownies have been balling all year with a losing record, they have scored more points then us this year, well almost everyone has. Miami has something to play for and that game might be close, but you know these guys are cleaning out their lockers after Sundays game and staying in Miami for vacation. It's done!

I could understand this mentality with the NBA when one single player could almost completely change a franchise' s fortune. In the NFL? No. You don't root for your team to lose.

The Jets can always trade up a spot or two or three anyway.

The scouts, GM and head coach have to know what they are doing anyway. What did drafting ahead of the Bears do for the Jets in the 2012 draft? The Jets took Hill two spots before the Bears took Jeffery.

I think we will win one of the next 2, but regardless of what happens I hope it does not give Idzik a reason to keep Rex. I don't want the same regime any longer.

Ken wisenhunt lost his job after 5 years with the cardinals and their SB appearance was not enought to keep him for the sake of continuity.

Lovie smith was also fired and he had more success than wisenhunt.

I would like the jets to hire a coach like Bruce Arians who has a history of developing QB and has experience in the NFL.

Maybe the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks should be given a shot. He has done a good job with Wilson.

I'm done with Rex, find a new offensive minded HC, give the DC job to Thurman and draft heavy on offense next year.

I don't put much stock in, if they win there last 2, the issue I have, is when they were in the playoff hunt, they went belly up, ya maybe this team has over achieved, but nonetheless, it was a let down.

I agree. rather pick before teams we compete against. the earlier the better, especially if the newer front office and scouting delivers better results than we were getting.

unlike last year, don't want to see team trading up right in front of us to swipe away a player we really need. the earlier up we are, the more it will cost them to do that. we already know what trading up/away picks does to your depth.

If they finish 8-8 considering most "experts" predicted 3-13 that's a step in the right direction and an improvement over last season where they hit rock bottom.

I might be crazy but I really don't think this team is as far off as people expect. To me there a respectable qb away from 10-6 or 11-5. Wilkerson broke out. Richardsons been a stud. Its been some positives from this season as opposed to last seasons train wreck.

8-8 means there not losers and they gutted it out. Regardless of how things play out. I'm much more optimistic about them going into this offseason then last offseason.

Knock the Dolphins out of contention and I'll be happy. A ticket to the dance is all a team needs, and I don't like the idea of seeing those pricks fluking their way anywhere

I disagree. Think a true franchise QB, a game-changing WR like Megatron or a stud pass rusher can't almost single-handedly change a franchise's fortune? I do.

You can't always trade up either. It takes another team willing to trade down. Also, that (all the trading up that Tanny did) is a very big part of the reason why the Jets have so little depth and so many holes.

I do agree that the scouts, GM and HC have to know what they're doing. Hopefully, Idzik and his guys do. If not, then they need to go too.

I've gave it rational thinking; if we as fans are told offense is the top priority in the offseason, I want Rex to stay. He has our D atop the league every year, that means a lot.

But what I just said is that of a broken record.

Hey, if you root for your favorite team to lose to move up a spot or two in the draft, then more power to you.

I am sure you are miserable this evening.
