I seriously hope the ravens make it, if only because it means theres one less team that'll want a WR ahead of us in the draft.
But but but the Jets are gonna make the playoffs. Lol. Let's try this again next year. If the Jets are aggressive in the offseason and actually add some talent in key areas then I'll believe.
Things that need to happen for the Jets to get a playoff spot (obviously Jets have to win last 2 games): 1) Miami lose to Buffalo (If this happens then if we beat Miami we have a better divisional record than them and get in) 2) Baltimore needs to lose to Detroit, New England and Cincinnati 3) San Diego needs to lose to Oakland and Kansas City (If they go 1-1, would be tied for conference record, not enough same opponents so tiebreak would be Strength of Victory, which San Diego is leading) 4) Steelers to lose any one remaining game
The problem is we need a lot of things to happen, but that long list of things that we need to happen aren't giant upsets or anything 1) Buffalo beat Miami at Miami this season, so doing it again at home can be definitely be done. 2) Baltimore is a worse team than all 3 of these teams, which are all likely to go to the playoffs. Losing to all 3 isn't crazy. 3)San Diego losing to Oakland is probably the least likely to happen. This is the one true upset that needs to happen. A loss to KC would be expected. 4) Steelers have to play GB at GB, which could easily be a loss.
it's not even worth contemplating that ridiculous pie-in-the-sky scenario, because the Jets would need to win 2 in a row - something they haven't done all year.
Look, it's obviously very unlikely Jets make the playoffs. But what's the point of being a fan if you don't root for it to happen. Might as well root for all the chips to fall their way. Hell, it happened in 2009
Jets would have the tiebreaker over San Diego. First tiebreaker is head to head games, and there was none between the two. Then its conference records, which would be the same. Then it goes to record against common opponents, which the Jets would have the advantage. 1,2 and 4 have to happen. Three doesn't need to happen.
I don't see why everyone thinks the Jets playoff chances are over. The scenario's they need to happen aren't that unlikely. Maybe its unlikely that they will all happen, but they all have a good chance of happening individually. Baltimore could lose their remaining three games. All their games are winnable or losable. Miami needs to lose to Buffalo, a team they have already lost to this season. Going to Buffalo in December is not easy. Miami might have a tough time with the weather. The Bills aren't a pushover team either. Pittsburgh needs to lose one of their last two. Playing Green Bay on the road is a tough game. If Rodgers is back, it's an even tougher game. If Pittsburgh wins that game, they end the season with Cleveland who isn't a pushover at all. Two very winnable games, but two very losable games. Only one of those two needs to be a loss. The two remaining games for the Jets are winnable games.
I plan to just play it week by week. Right now we need the Ravens to lose. If they lose then lets look to next week: Bills over Phins Raiders over Chargers Patriots over Ravens Packers over Steelers Jets over Browns At least we could get to enjoy one more meaningful game with a ton of scoreboard watching. Right now though our hands are in the lions so let's see. Also if the Jets somehow manage to survive week 16 then week 17 is actually a lot more likely considering both the Bengals and Chiefs will be playing for potential bye weeks. I would actually like our chances but the chances we make it out of week 16 are small but if we did then we would have a great shot.
We don't need the bolded game. We have the tiebreaker over the Chargers assuming both teams are at 8-8. If the Week 15(Det-Bal) and 16 scenarios all fall the Jets way, the only help they need in Week 17 is the Bengals at home to beat the Ravens, which could very realistically happen. The hard part is getting to Week 17 with a chance, but if the Jets get to week 17 with a chance, the Jets have a good shot at the playoffs.
