    He needs an extension.

We need continuity within this organization to have any success. If you keep firing coaches, the odds of building a playoff team slowly creep out the window. You need to give him time to develop an offense under MM. This offseason should be a blast. Go out and get a couple big free agents and draft talent like never before. Give him all the pieces he needs and let him build this team.

Ahhh I like Rex and want him to be our coach, but when you said he never went worse than 7-9, did you forget the New York Jets with Rex Ryan went 6-10 last year?

I was told there would be no math on this test but I'm pretty sure 6-10 is worse than 7-9.

    But I'm not sure.

I don't think Woody will pull the plug on Rex no matter the record. Woody likes Rex and Rex is popular with the fanbase. Idzik doesn't have the authority yet to fire Rex as he wasn't allowed to hire his own HC. Understandable as Idzik was a Cap guy in Seattle and so far, his personnel moves have been.... mediocre. I do think it would be a mistake w/o further successes to give Rex a long term extension. No more than 1 year which would give him until 2015. Then again, for a franchise that hasn't won shit in 45 years, nothing would surprise me.

Oh, and FTR, 6-10 is worse than 7-9 even in JetLand.

3 non-winning seasons in a league full of parity. Time to blow it up.

Rex is toast if they go 6-10. Time for some new blood. He has had his 5 years and this team is getting worse and worse each year.

I agree if they don't go 7-9 / 8-8 it's over. No improvement was shown and you are what your record says you are.

It's not the wins and losses for me so much as the style of play and the horrible offense. With almost very team putting up pinball type points and yards, the Jets offense and game plan is like something out of the 1940s. Ground and pound does not cut it in the 2013 NFL. It's time for a change.

Rex should be back next year. This team was competitive in a rebuilding year and that's all you can ask for. If they make some moves and are serious about contending and the Jets underachieve then I can advocate getting rid of Rex.

I feel like this team fights hard for Rex. It's clearly a flawed roster, but to go out and fight with Carolina (one of the toughest teams in the league atm) for the majority of the game is respectable. He deserves one more season in my book. Draft some weapons, give MM some more time to work with Geno/ bring in a veteran and see what happens. This team would be 10-6 with an average offense IMO.

while i do like rex, i think it's time to move on. he is too loyal to some players to a fault. reed should not even be on the field. stayed with mark too long last season. bart scott was done 2 yrs ago. pace has 9 sacks but mostly coverage sacks. clock mgmt is poor. timeout calls all year have been headscratchers. believe he's just a good def coord. blitz playcalls have also been pretty bad.

not sure why the record would matter in any way shape or form. its about progress and the jets have not made a ton of it over the past 3 years. especially on the offensive side of the ball. but defensively too, to watch lbs get torched by rbs, to watch cam read the all out blitz from the left and just run himself to the right. to watch dee half a milli just go and allow himself to be blocked while making minimal effort to make a tackle.

these things are frustrating, the fact there are what 4 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick and another first who plays nickel and the defense is still not incredible. thats a bit disappointing. i am all for a fresh start at this point. i think the rex wagon has run its course, it was fun for awhile but i think the ride is done.

and i dont think it matters in any way shape or form how the team plays the rest of the way. i do look for players, especially young players to continue to grow and play better but rex job i think has been sealed up for a little while now.

Agree - Rex has been done for awhile now. We will not out score the Browns; and Miami will have something to play for in week 17. I was done with Rex after the bye when buffalo blew us out. It's just the same garbage.

Who would repla0c0e Rex? How can the jets justify firing him.. geno smith is a rookie qb who is disgraceful at this point. The team has played hard each week. Defense has been very good on a whole.. they can't possibly sustain that for 60 minutes and 0carry the jets to wins cause all the offense can do is go 3 and out. Vince Lombardi could be resurrected and not win with geno smith at qb.

Rex has 3 wins over teams that ended up with a winning record......in the last 3 years combined!! 0 wins over teams ending with a winning record in '11, 1 in '12 (Colts) and 2 this year (Pats, Saints). That's pathetic. When was the last time we won 2 in a row? It hasn't happened this year.

He has 0 division, conference or VLT titles. He has gone 3 years without a winning record. If we lose out, he has a .500 regular season record after half a decade of coaching.

Please don't use the "he's the best Jets coach we've had in years" argument. The Jets franchise is historically bad. It essentially makes him the cream of the crap. The team has not sustained the success it had in '09-'10. You don't reward a coach with an extension when a teams trajectory is downward for a significant length of time.

Hell, what other HC has been given 3 OC's in 5 years? Don't get me started on Sparano (Rex: "He's my guy!")

Let Idzik find "his guy". Maybe we can have an NFL level offense again. Time for the last piece of the circus to leave town.

I know that Parcells recommended Bradway. That's just another reason I despise Tuna.

If Woody took advice from Marty Schottenheimer to hire his son, and then just blindly stuck with him, that proves my point how clueless Woody is. Herm Edwards had never been a coordinator and was a joke hiring. If Woody had hired an experienced football man (not Parcells, who was infamous for bailing on teams) who would have stayed, I don't think that Herm, Schotty, Bradway or Tanny would ever have been hired.

Yeah, it's been hellish all right. That joke is clueless and should be fired the second the season ends.

Seems like the fanbase is still split on a Rex decision. I think that Woody is not though and will retain him. I can smell it coming.
