He took a lot of hard hits. He lost most of his weapons and then finally for one game all of his weapons. (The game where Sudfeld, Salas and Nelson got the most targets because the Bengals had Kerley bracketed all game.) He really wasn't ready to go at the start but the Jets let him throw the ball around some anyway. If the Jets had been blessed this year Holmes and Kerley would have stayed healthy and Winslow would not have gotten suspended. Instead the targets all went away and left the rookie, who was not ready anyway, all alone on the corner in a bad neighborhood.
And you're clueless to think that Rex has as much authority in drafting players as you think he does. Show me proof this is the case. I can bet you with 100% certainty you won't find any. Just because we've drafted defense recently isn't conclusive of shit. Idzik stated after this years draft they took the two best players on their board which means Rex didn't have influence on anything and Idzik relied on his scouts.
You arent that naive, are you? Do you honestly expect him to admit Rex had some influence since he will be coaching the drafted players? Keep drinking more of the kool aid.
Undisciplined? Other than this year they generally rank towards the top of the NFL in penalties committed. Come out flat in big games? Guess they were flat in those 2 AFC championship runs, or this year when they beat the Pats and Saints, two of the top 5 teams in the NFL. Yea, let's fire that guy.
Thanks for playing. You didn't show me any proof to support your premise. Mere speculation on baseless assumptions. And I never said Rex didn't have any influence. I don't think he has as much influence as some of the posters on this board think. People (like you) make it seem like HE, and HE ALONE, make the draft picks. You can't be that naive, can you? You realize the GM runs the ship on a sports team, right?
There is almost no chance the Jets win either of those games with this talent with any coach not named Rex Ryan.
Agreed. People are pointing the finger in the wrong area. All you have to do is look at the talent on this team. We've had statistically the worst QBs the past two years, yet we won 6 games, and anywhere between 5-9 this year. On top of that we have no skill WR/TE (at this point Kerley is probably the only WR that would make a good team's roster), offensive line, or secondary. Take all that into consideration and this team has the talent level of a 3-5 win team and there's a chance Rex finishes the season with a .500 record with THAT GARBAGE.
Yawn, keep living off the past! That was how long ago again? Please tell me what Rex's record is coming out of byes again? Rex is largely to blame for the whole Sparano fiasco, ineptness of the offense now for 5 years, poor clock management, bad challenges, the list goes on. He basically lost control of the locker room 2 years ago as well. There is too many negatives for him to survive with an awful year #5. We all knew Rex was dead man walking before the season started and it would take an 8-8 or better for him to keep his job but its not happening. Its time to give someone else a shot now. Rex had 5 years and thats more then enough years then alot of coaches get.
There isnt any need to prove something that is common sense. So the head coach just sit backs and just has no input on any of the picks? What dream world are you living in these days? I never said he alone makes the picks but has plenty of input. Learn to read.
His record off of byes? Sure let's cherry pick 1 game out of a 16 game season instead of looking at the total sample size. Yes, he is to blame for the Sparano fiasco, no doubt about that. But he was canned after one year, and replaced with one of the best offensive minds in football in MM. Does he not deserve credit for that? You blame me for living in the past for the AFC champ games, but you do the same thing with commenting on 'losing the locker room 2 years ago.' You can't have it both ways. So you agree he should keep his job if they finish 8-8. What if he gets to 7 wins, does he keep his job then? Tell me how that makes any sense. Yea, and the teams that continue to turn their coaching staffs over never have any stability and continue to miss the playoffs; see Oakland, Cleveland, Buffalo.
I'm sure he does have say, I never said he didn't. Maybe you should learn to read. Once again, you're offering a baseless assumption that he has as much say as he does. Show me proof of this. You can't just sit there and assume he 'has plenty of input.' What are you basing this on? Your own agenda to prove Rex should be fired? A good GM relies on all parties involved when he makes the pick. In what world can you derive from that that Rex is the one making the picks? So when the Jets draft a solid pick the GM should get credit, but if a pick is bad, we should blame Rex? Tell me how that makes any fucking sense.
Not cherry picking, just providing one of many examples of how this glorified DC is in over his head. Rex fan boys won't ever admit anything and think hes the best thing since sliced bread. These teams know when they have peaked and trying to find a correct fit. Its obvious here in NY Rex has peaked. If he hasn't, then why does his teams keep getting worse now 3 years in a row? Teams will hire until they feel like they have the right head coach for the direction they want to go in. Head coaches in this day in age dont last very long with losing records like Rex has had now in 3 straight years. The team has been been in a tailspin now for 3 years. The head coach needs to be held accountable and he will if they dont play lights out these next 4 games.
Like i said, learn how to read. You flat out just said that people like me thinks that he alone makes the decisions and I never once said that. He is the "head" coach. You think any other team would draft defense as much as Rex? Its pretty obvious. Look at our last 5 first round picks by the way. It has Rex spelled all over it. The poor drafts and trades have already cost Mr T his job and Rex is next on the chopping block.
Logic just isn't your strong suit I see. You're using a conclusion to justify your premise. It's supposed to be the other way around chief. You're ignoring context. We drafted two D players this year where Idzik stated they were the two best players on their board. On top of that, if they weren't drafted, who would you of preferred on offense? You realize there were no skill position players worth taking at 9 and 13, do you? Is it possible that just cause we drafted defense doesn't necessarily mean Rex had his paws all over the draft? Yea, it does. The Jets drafted Coples when their biggest need as a pass rusher (at that time). Just about every draft pundit had us taking some DE/LB, be it Coples, Ingram, or C.Jones. Context, context, context my friend. Do some research when you get a chance my friend and you may learn a thing or two.
Simple, his teams keep getting worse because the talent is diminishing. And easy with that, Rex can surpass last years win total by splitting the last 4 games. Have you seen the talent on this team and compared it to the ones over the past few years? Shit like this happens when your GM ruins your cap forcing your current GM to sign JAGs off the street. No seriously, that's not a pun. Cribbs, Nelson, and Salas were literally sitting on their couches when Idzik signed them.
Theres nothing logic about it. You flat out "assumed" i meant that the pick was all Rex and i never said that. You have very poor reading comprehension skills or just flat out dont know what certain words mean apparently. Once again, you ignore half of what i say and nitpick parts of it. I said the last "5" drafts. This just isnt one draft im referring to. There was some talent in the top 15 there at O line and TE (which we definitely need). There have been chances over Rex's tenure to grab some offensive talent but instead, the team goes defense at every chance it gets and it has burned him. How else can you explain how bad the offense has been in 5 years?
Be careful what you wish for. Getting rid of Rex Ryan means a full blown purging and rebuilding of this team from the bottom up. Assuming we have the right GM in place to do this (we have no idea if we do right now, draft #1 is a mixed bag), then you basically need to land the perfect head coaching candidate or we end up perennially back in the Rich Kotite years. Again, be careful what you wish for.
As I was saying, the only pick this past draft that wasn't in a position of what has proven to be a need is the Richardson pick, which was far and away the best pick we had in the entire draft. Yes, there were still many glaring needs that weren't filled, but this team has needs at virtually every position. Besides, by that logic the picking Geno was the right way to go. I even thought at the time Woods was the best choice (BPA AND at a position of dire need), but in terms of need, QB always takes precedent if you don't have one.
Idzik is going to stick with Geno the same way Tannenbaum stuck with Sanchez. This is going to be a multiyear process now. These GMs are a hard headed bunch.
Smiths failures fall on Idzik as well as Rex. If Smith plays like the worst CB in football these last 4 weeks, i totally think he will either sign a FA QB or draft one next year. The biggest question though will still remain in this offseason is will Idzik stick with Rex or get his guy?
