Its true that rex ryan has had 3 different ocs since he's been here, however my point is that he gives his ocs complete autonomy. That's a an arrangement that many head coaches have with their dcs or ocs depending on what side of the ball they come from. so my arguement is valid.

He's the HEAD coach. The buck stops with him. If he only wants to be responsible for the defensive side of the ball he should go back to being a DC

Right. And we need a MAJOR rebuild and Rex aint it, pure and simple. You don't rebuild with the guy who took you down so far. If Rex stayed, his first move would be to resign his favorite Ed Reed (who STILL hasn't won a game this year) to a 5-year extension. Then he'd reinsert Mark Sanchez ("Mark gives us the best chance to win) as QB. Then he'd lobby to draft 10 more guys on defense. Then people on this board this time NEXT year would STILL be clinging to "But Rex is a defensive genius." Yeah. right, offensive powerhouse Miami only
totally dominated Rex's powerhouse D today. THE JETS NEED A NEW IDENTITY AND THAT STARTS WITH LOSING ITS LOSER HEAD COACH--check the team record the last 3 years, people.

Shanahan is quietly ancient for a head coach. 62 next season.

You can win with an older coach as a new hire but you're better off with a younger guy most of the time. You want somebody who is trying to make his bones, not somebody who is contentedly gnawing on the bones of his last kill.

and he has not has any top 10 talent added to the offense in the past three years. Again its not on REX its on the GM. He turned a team that was expected by many pundits to win <5 games into a 5 game winner maybe another 1 or 2 other wins but no its all Rex's fault.

    Fuck that shit

He doesnt draft his players the GM goes. The buck doesnt stop with him it stops at the GM and he the HC deals with what he has in front of him

Bingo. Shanny's prime as a top HC has past. We definitely need a hungry, younger coach. David Shaw would be a prime candidate if the Jets get rid of Rex.

Our recent first rounders in order went:

    DL Richardson
    CB Milner
    DL Coples
    DL Wilkerson
    CB Wilson

That does not count the recent second rounder used to obtain Cromartie or the trade up in round one to select Revis.

Do you really think our GMs made these picks without asking Rex who he wanted?

These picks have Rex's stinking hands all over them

Unless you get pretty lucky, most of the gamebreaker offensive players go very fast. Take a look at those five first round drafts and look who the Jets are drafting, 4/5 defensive players. The Jets dont completely ignore the offense but they wait WAY too late to try to pick up good offensive players and it has burned them. They need to start drafting offensive players in the first round. Nothing is a sure thing but drafting skill positions for offense in round 2 and 3 is way too risky. Coples isnt very good either. He isnt playing up to his #1 pick status. We really need an edge rusher and all we have is players with no speed rush and just try to bull rush everyone.

As much as I love Rex I think the mediocrity on the offense will get him fired, and his clock management will not help him either. Its a shame because he could have been a great HC with a good QB but it is what it is, no one is safe from their record and the fact is he is 19-23 over the last 3 seasons so far.

You are clueless pal if you seriously think Rex being the head coach has no influence on draft picks. The GM ultimately has to be in agreement to give the go ahead to send in the pick but considering how bad our offense has been since Rex has got here and Rex himself only knowing defense and defense only, its obvious to see that Rex pushed to get more players for his beloved overrated defense.

This is probably a very good argument for keeping Rex Ryan at the helm, even if "Après Rex, le déluge" is a bad justification in general. I'm not entirely sure where a potential coaching switch collapse might end up at---I'd prefer to keep the Jets from sharing winless honors with the Lions and Buccaneers.

This is a terrific post. Not only did I start laughing, but it's offset some of the eye-rolling from today's game. Thank you very much!

Stink or not ( and I must say it may seem like Rex) he does not call the shots. The change over started with Idzik and he best bpa. thats all BPA.

He does not hold the GM title. Listen at the end of the day it maybe Rex's undoing. But he has not been given anything to work with on offense PLAIN and Simple

Lets look at last year's draft for a second:

#9 Overall: Dee Milner. Yea, a defensive player, but considering how bad the secondary has been this year and that he was by many considered the BPA at the spot, it's understandable that they took him. Yea, he's sucked, but drafting CB's is notoriously hit or miss.

#13: Sheldon Richardson. Candidate for DROY. You could make a case for picking Vaccaro or Loutulelei, but anybody who criticizes this pick needs their head checked. The next offensive skill player picked was Eifert at #21 (who I loved, but it's hard to argue is more important to the future of this team). Case closed.

#39: Geno Smith. Yes, he's played like dog s**t. I hated Geno coming out of college and thought he would be a bust. But until we have a franchise quarterback, I will not criticize the front office for taking a shot on one in the second round. If it was my pick I would have gone with Robert Woods, but if Sanchez was starting, this board wouldnt' be any better than it is right now.

#72, #141, #178: Guards. Considering how bad our O-line has been, and how little depth it had, a reasonable draft strategy.

#215: Tommy Bohanon: Taking a solid FB in the 7th round....I'll take it.

Most of these picks are very understandable unless you want to play captain hindsight. With our 2 first round picks, there wasn't an offensive skill player EVEN CLOSE to being BPA. The only player in our 2nd pick that may have been BPA in a position of need would have been Woods, but WE STILL HAD NO QB. The rest was trying to rebuild the O-line, which has certainly needed. Sure, not all the picks have worked out, but even in hindsight it still looks like a reasonable draft strategy.

I think we would have a worse record this year if we had a diffrent coach to start the season. But what i cant figure out is what happend to Geno.He showed some promise early on alot of it infact ,we havent see anything from him since the Falcons Game .He showed some progress early on and hasnt shown shit lately.Geno looks to be worse then Sanchez at this point

  17. Do I think Rex is perfect?Far from it. Does his dismissive attitude toward the offense irk me? Absolutely.

But this inconsistent, conservative & quite often inept offense has been a problem long before his time as head coach. I can remember just as many stinkers during the Mangini & Herm eras.

There seems to be an underlying theme & attitude throughout the organization that devalues the importance of top playmakers on offense. Unless you include Sanchez(and I don't) this team hasn't drafted a blue chip first round skill player since Santana Moss. That's over a decade! Every year the league becomes more & more about big plays. This team is frankly incapable of explosive chunk yardage. It's impossible to be competitive that way.

Additionally, we've seen this franchise let solid to elite level OL's that carried successful teams..turn to shit time & time again. 2005,2007 & now 2013.

When you factor in the lack of a franchise QB since the 60's...as well as the above issues..what you have i a franchise that doesn't value, scout or acquire offensive talent very well. This team will not take the next step until they figure this out

At some point, you have to take a back seat and draft for need then just best player available all the time. If your team gets unlucky with draft position for a few years, do you keep just drafting BPA for positions you have more then enough help with? Thats pretty much what the Jets did and have been doing for a few years then. That strategy works when you dont have too many holes but not when you have as many holes as this team has currently. I dont fully fault the draft strategy too much this year but more so the scouting. Dee Milliner has no business being a 1st round draft pick, let alone in the NFL at all. The guy is that bad. I know we werent the only ones who had him high on the board either. Just goes to show you how much of a fraud this guy is and how unlucky the Jets have been with #1 picks the last 7-8 years with guys like DeWayne Robertson, Sanchez, Milliner, and Gholston....

This is poor logic. You're using a conclusion to justify your premise.

What is killing Rex was sticking with Smith too long. Watching the defense you see a tired, worn out, annoyed group. The secondary is weak to begin with, their 1st round pick miss all of camp and has flopped all season, and today they lacked effort. You can't lack effort.
