here is my view on things right now. the team hasnt looked good in a few weeks. this is the same team that most were predicting 6-10 or 7-9 as the high water mark. the team is 5-6 and may end up where most were hoping. at 8-8 or so. enjoy the team, they will win a few from here on out and they will probably lose a few too. they will make some wonderful plays and they will make some terrible plays. all you really should have ever hoped for this year is answering some questions and seeing if some guys developed and got better as the season went along. so here we are just a little over half way through the season and people have already given up. they dont look for points of development on a team that is in the developmental stages, they look for people to blame for the past 2 weeks.
We are a big part of the team. We pay for seats, we buy concessions and merchandise, we drive TV ratings, we read the papers, and our clicks bring revenue to internet providers. The team is a reflection of what the fans expect. By constantly shitting on the team, demanding that heads roll, and insisting upon signing used-up veterans as splash signings (Favre, Esiason, O'Donnell etc.), we dictate that this team remains mediocre with no long term plan through constant turnover and churning. Your post is a classic example - "See I told you Woodhead was special!" "Our folks inside the organization have fucked things up" "What we need is a viable backup QB". These are perfect examples of (1) using your perfect hindsight to trash the team; (2) demanding change without a plan; and (3) demanding a splash signing (You neglect to mention who?) to insure continued mediocrity. Congratulations. Sincerely, A Little Pink Pony
Danny fucking Woodhead? Yeah, he's relevant to our current situation. Sheesh. Plenty of teams have had long, Super Bowl droughts, plenty of teams have never even been to a Super Bowl. As someone pointed out the other day, the Jets actually stack up fairly well with most other teams when it comes to number of recent playoff appearances. Doesn't mean there hasn't been plenty of suffering for fans over the years, but Jesus Christ, let's have some perspective. It hasn't been all doom and gloom with this franchise. Other fans/teams have had it much worse. Stop the whining, or at least, balance it out with a little positivity, on occasion.
So you're telling me there's a chance Danny Woodhead still? He's one team removed, the Pats let him walk also.
He was also productive for them. He's now been productive for two teams as opposed to Joe McKnight who puked and fumbled himself out of the league altogether while Woodhead continues to be a good hand..
Yep. It's definitely the fan's fault that the Jets can't win two games in a row. That's also why the Patriots are so damn good...they must have great fans, right?
I like this post, a lot. We all want to believe that the Jets are super bowl contenders every year, but there's an understanding that we won't genuinely be in that discussion until we have a QB who can produce. Geno isn't that guy this year, with some weapons around him, another off-season and hopefully some young, competent, competition, who knows what the future holds. Let's just relax and enjoy the rest of this season.
So give him some weapons and hope things are better next year? Everyone wants to pretend like anything can happen while ignoring the writing on the wall. There were plenty of signs that pointed to Geno being a flop like this at the NFL level. Now you want to just hope he somehow starts playing better? Ain't gonna happen, it's just wasting more time. In a twisted way, you can look at it as fortunate to not have any offensive playmakers right now because they'd just be helping disguise what a bad qb Geno is.
Luckily he was only a 2nd round draft pick, if he was a first we would pretty much have to play him next year. If Idzik does draft another QB, he has to get it right whether it be a first rounder or second rounder. We can't keep losing draft picks over players who will end up on the bench.
Good then hop the next plane to Vegas & buy your tix & then post it here so we can all see how ballsy of a guy you are
We are 2-6 in the AFC, 2-2 in the division, 0-1 against the Titans, Steelers, Ravens, 1-1 against the Bills. The math does not look good for a playoff run without a Jet like collapse by the teams ahead of us because we own no tiebreakers. Would I bet on that happening? Probably not. It it wasn't for two very flukey and fortunate penalties, this team would be 3-8 and not even in the conversation. luck only takes you so far before quality comes into play. We're short on quality on the most important side of the ball.
I really don't give a shit about other teams. If you and their fans are happy with mediocrity then god bless... I've been a NY Jets fan since they signed Joe Namath...that's really all the perspective I need.
