clearly NOT pass interference..... Gronk was five yards away from the play when the Panther player intercepted the pass Good Call Brady and Mallet should be fined 50000 each for their whining and Belichick fined 100000 and suspended for two games for his post game comments and complaints. Maybe more, since he is a serial offender, a serial cheater and a serial harborer of murderers
Did you see Belichick post game comments? Clearly, you did not or else you wouldn't be speaking out of your ass.
I don't watch the stinking, cheating, criminal piece of crap ...no thanks... he should be making license plates, not speeches at press conferences
yeah, I was thinking about that last night. I figured the reasoning for picking it up had to be because there was no illegal contact or holding (which I think was correct); there was only the defender impeding the receiver by semi-faceguarding him. What Kuechly did was not illegal contact or holding. That action only gets called for pass interfence. So a ref saw pass interference, flagged it, and then they got together and someone else said correctly that it was uncatchable. If Brady throws it relatively near Gronkowski, NE had it at the 1 yard line with a chance to win the game.
I'm not sure that it was only PI - you don't think that would have been at least potentially illegal contact if it had occurred before the play? You don't think he touched him at all? That would have been close, I think, although getting that call might have been a break for the Pats, since in the end zone defenders and receivers are banging all over the place all the time. The real point is that Keuchly had no idea that the pass was going to be intercepted, and made a terrible play that happened to work out well for him, as you said right away.
It was probably pass interference, but none-the-less a tough call with the catch-ability factor. I certainly don't feel sorry for those patsies, for the last decade they've been getting the benefit of the doubt in close calls like these. What pisses me off is that Brady can get away with his tirade at the officials.. that the NFL decides to issue an explanation a mere hours later, when they almost never do such a thing like that.. that something like this, that happens almost weekly in the NFL is treated differently when it happens AGAINST New England.
If they had called illegal contact or holding, they would've had an untimed down from the 13 yard line. Belichick press conference
Dean Blandino said it wasn't because it was uncatchable, it's because they felt the ball was picked off before the penalty was committed (I don't think I agree). http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...11/watch_nfl_official.html?rss_id=Top+Stories NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino on Tuesday provided the league's viewpoint on the controversy at the end of the Patriots-Panthers game Monday night. On NFL Total Access, Blandino broke down the final play as follows: "Here's [Rob] Gronkowski in the formation. The back judge in the middle of the field, he's on the end line, that's his key. We've got [Aaron] Dobson down here, the side judge who is on the goal line, that's his key. Let's watch the play develop. "The back judge is going to see restriction right there [when Luke Kuechly contacts Gronkowski], and he's going to throw his flag for that restriction. The side judge, who had Dobson, his mechanics are once the ball's in the air, he's going to go to the ball and he's going to focus on the interception. After the play, you'll see the flag come out, the back judge is going to signal to the side judge, they're going to get together and they're going to have a discussion. "What they are going to talk about is when did the restriction occur in relation to the ball being touched, because once the ball is touched, you cannot have pass interference. This is a judgment call, the officials don't have the use of replay, they don't have slow-motion replay, and ultimately they ruled that the restriction occurred simultaneously with the ball being touched, and when you watch it at full speed, you can see why they would make that call on the field." Then Blandino was asked if the flag should have been picked up, which is what the officials did. "Again, it's a judgment call. There was contact, but there's contact on a lot of passing plays downfield. The issue isn't the contact, the issue is the restriction, does it occur prior to the ball being touched, and at full speed, the officials made a tight judgment call and they determined that the restriction occurred just as the ball was being touched."
Booo-hooo, if the patties was so bad why did the game have to come down to a last second hail mary anyway? Should have put the panthers away in the third quarter!
They had a bunch of opportunities to close that game. 3rd and 1 before the Pats settled for 3 to make it 20-17 and on the following Panthers drive, Cam had that ridiculous run which was on 3rd down and after that, Tolbert made a play on 3rd and 1 to extend the Ginn touchdown drive.
Yeah and Gronk didn't react like a man getting interfered with which backfired on him. Just a weird play and the randomness of what is and isn't PI plays into this. For me it boiled down to two things that kept it from being PI 1) The ball was under thrown. It wasn't a jump ball, there was no play for a WR to make on it. 2) Gronk didn't make an effort to try for it. He drifted with Luke instead of cutting back to the ball and forced Luke to hold him. Instead he went with the contact and didn't show any reaction to the ball. I disagree that the ball was picked before contact, I agree more that there was little contact and the pass/Gronk hid the contact.
Thats a pretty horseshit explanation, I'm sorry. Particularly weak that he doesn't show the play in "full speed" to illustrate his point. If this happened to the Jets, allan1 would be in a courthouse being indicted for something right now.
Ahmad Brooks fined 16k. I don't see what all the uproar is. Plenty of penalties are worse than that one, and he did hit him in the head.
no, he never touched his head. he clearly hit him in the chest, and in the course of bodies in motion the arm also hit him in the neck during the course of the motion. to make matters worse you can see Brooks avoid using his helmet and going for his chest, and he was still called for a penalty and fined. there is a difference between hitting someone in the head and neck, and the neck and head receiving contact. it would be the equivalent of a QB being tackled cleanly, and on his way down his head hitting another players arm and that second player being called for a penalty for not avoiding contact with the QB's head. it is a complete BS call and fine.
his shoulder is barely touching his helmet underneath the ear hole. he was hardly struck in the head. that hit is to the chest. I do love the way Brees' neck looks like it cartoonishly stretches as his body goes one way and his head stays in place. Bugs Bunny would be proud.
^Agree to disagree I guess. Touching the helmet at all is enough to warrant a penalty. And the way the hit looks makes it look worse than what it actually was if that makes any sense. Bet his neck is being iced as we speak lol
