I also heard that the Knicks were trying to get Kenneth Faried earlier this week by shopping Shump. Seems like the FO is trying to get rid of Shump.
I don't want to trade for a PF because if Chandler is really coming back in a month, a crowded 4/5 will get even more crowded. That would be a panic move in my eyes. Upgrading Felton using Shump, that could be good for us, but we lose a close to 40% 3 point shooter and a a perimeter defender. But yeah the Rondo trade just seems to be one sided, the Knicks trying and the Celtics repeatedly saying no. If there is movement in the discussions, you will definitely hear about it from the big sports outlets.
Chris Broussard @Chris_Broussard 25m Knicks looking to upgrade at PG, have eye on Rondo. But sources say no interest on Celtics' part
^The Celts are playing better than us with a bunch of scrubs + Rondo. If I have to watch those ugly ass orange uniforms one more time I'm just gonna pack it in for the season. What's the damn point of it, when it looks so similar to the Hawks jerseys it does nothing but cause confusion. Whoever made that decision outta be fired. Even the refs were confused at some moments. Knicks are falling apart and it starts with Dolan. They have low bball IQ everywhere from the players, to the coaches to the management. Scrutinize your product. Stop looking for nothing but quick fix big trades, overpaying players and making new uniforms, while yelling at people over it that have nothing to do with it and playing in rock bands and making guarantees. I don't think the focus is there, on any level of this franchise outside of Carmelo. As much as I'd give up my left testicle for Rondo, the main problem with this team is they majorly shift the personnel every 2-3 years. There's no consistency at all and as a result, no depth and no chemistry. The best long term winning teams in the NBA have kept their key personnel and role players together for several years. It started with the whole 2010 free agency hype. They tanked for 2 years so they could sign Staudemire, who was at the end of his prime, hoping to land others. The team gels well and looked good, but Amare fails to stay healthy for the playoffs ANY year, and they have to trade most of the roster for Melo. Our depth hasn't been the same since. Trading for Rondo would just be another wild move that will take 2 years to get used to. That's not how you build a team. It's the same cycle repeating itself over and over with the young talent. Rookie shows promise, looks decent and is gone within 2 years. Shump is the current victim and Hardaway will be gone in a few years. I have no reason to believe otherwise based on our history, even if Hardaway looks good. We never build through the draft, we always trade our picks, we always trade the young talent. When was the last time the Spurs even made a trade? Do we have a single player on the team that's been here more than 3 years? It makes a big difference. This is why the Spurs know each other so well, even as their best players get older and less effective. They have chemistry, which is something that cannot be coached. Parker could probably still find Ducan with his eyes closed. In the last 2 decades, nobody has been more consistent than the Spurs. Dolan could learn a thing or 2 from them. I'd be willing to bet that there's more ex-Knicks in the league than any other franchise.
The problem is Melo. Everyone from the owner on down differ to him as the leader but he has zero leadership qualities, so the team operates in a vacuum of direction. It doesn't help that Woodson coaches like a scared little girl either
Don't agree about Melo. Iso ball is Woodson ball. If Melo can settle with the right supporting cast without constantly switching it up each year, we'll be fine. What they need to do is keep Bargs & Melo together longeterm(Melo in prime, Bargs almost in prime), they have great potential as a 1-2 punch, they just need time to work out the kinks. Jr needs to stay coming off the bench, not starting. We need a better point guard. Carmelo is the one thing right with the team. It's sad that we have so much money locked in Amar'e. Without a doubt, he's the #1 problem, not Melo. When they signed him for the max deal he was at the end of his prime. His contract severely limits what we can do with the team and he hasn't come close to playing up to it. Melo's playing without key players and averaging 40 minutes a game, 2nd highest in the league. He's upped his rebounding numbers and steals this year so far as well. We're leaning too hard on him, he'll break by post season if it continues. His assists would be up this year as well if people didn't keep bricking open shots. He's gotta get his shot % up a bit, but it's not going to happen if he has to account for 50% of the offense, with nobody else posing a threat. Remember, when we traded for Melo, the expectation was that he'd TEAM UP WITH Amar'e to run the offense, not that he'd have to carry the entire team. The expectation was to have 2 superstars as the foundation so we could compete with Miami & Boston with their respective big threes. We've got our Kucoch & our Jordan, we just need a pippen. Remember, even Jordan couldn't win it alone. The onus falls upon the management, no doubt in my mind. In hindsight, the Amar'e deal was one of the worst moves this Franchise has made in a quite while (and there's been a lot of em). We need to get him off the books at all costs, and use the money on a better PG.
Lol nobody wins a championship by themselves, Melo has carried this team on his back, his supporting cast is garbage. Melo is not the problem, period.
To further demonstrate my point about Amar'e holding the team back, we are -36 with him on the floor this season. -36!!! He's a liability and now he's supposedly asking for more minutes when he can't handle the ones he plays. The guy really needs to opt out of the contract this off season and save the knicks a big headache. He owes them for making him filthy rich for one good season where he still couldn't stay healthy the whole way. Every year it's Amar'e trying to come back from injury. It gets old. He crippled our team, now he needs to do the responsible thing and opt out. He clearly doesn't have what it takes anymore. EDIT: Also those god awful cursed orange jerseys need to be burned.
I don't think Melo is the main problem. He's in the CP3, Deron, Dirk boat where he's very good, but he's not Lebron or Kobe good to single handedly raise a team a level. The main problem in my opinion really comes back to Amare and his health and contract. Amare was supposed to be #2 guy who the Knicks could go to to help Melo. Right now he provided that for maybe half a season. Then has been routinely hurt the rest of his time here
http://basketball.realgm.com/wireta...-Feeling-Sharp-Pain-With-Pinched-Nerve-In-Hip Felton has a strained hammy and a pinched nerve. Rest him up, he's clearly not effective right now
I don't see how you can say Melo/CP3 can't, on their own, raise their teams 'level'. Without Carmelo, the Knicks are a lottery team. Without CP3, the Clippers are not even close to being a top 3 team in the west. Rondo deal seems dead and just wishful thinking. Anthony needs help, serious help. Felton is horrible. Knicks clearly aren't winning right now. They need to set themselves up to keep Carmelo and make a run at Love.
LeBron or Kobe never single handedly raised a Chip, no player ever has you need pieces around you. Melo has no star next to him like most other top 10 players do, I wouldn't be surprised if he left NY this off-season.
Hopefully he does. It would be a sign and trade so the Knicks could get some good pieces back and start building a better constructed team
While CP3 and Melo haven't been on greatly talented and coached teams (until now for CP3) they have not had Eric Snow or Smush Parker like Lebron and Kobe. They've had better teams than that. They are very good players, but they just aren't the *best* player. The Knicks are a lottery team without Melo because Melo is so good and the team isn't built well, not just because Melo is so good. I'm talking about just elevating a bad team. Kobe and Lebron for example have shown to take a lacking team further than a Dirk or Melo or CP3. But at the same time, these are great players, they just aren't the *best*. Does that make sense or do I sound crazy?
I don't see Dolan sign and trading Melo. It would be Melo walking I think. Although if we hear word Melo is leaving and sign and trade him, that would be smart
Makes sense but those aren't fair comparisons, Kobe and LeBron are once in a generation players. Melo is 1 tier below that type of player but he's still a mega superstar who's been in the playoffs every year of his career with considerably less talent than those two.
I hope THJ starts getting some good minutes, he's starting to look like a good player and I love the aggressiveness and energy. Kid could be a star. Does anyone know if Felton is playing tonight? I heard he has a nerve issue or something in his leg.
