absolutely sign him if healthy. our secondary could learn a ton from Reed, and a vet like that on the team could boost the D's confidence. I think you have to let him clear waivers though, or you absorb the same contract no?
I recently read somewhere that he had a $6 million contract which had a $2 signing bonus, $1 workout, $1 something else and $2 million advanced. i don't think we'd take over the contract.
You don't claim him on waivers; nobody is going to be willing to take over that contract so there's no need to worry. And once he clears waivers, the Jets automatically become the favorite to sign him because of Rex. Just sit back and sign him for a reasonable price in a few days.
Everyones gunna go after him, he made comments to get out of Houston, Jets have got to get him if they can. Period.
When a player is waived, the cap hits of bonuses stay with the team that waived the player. Unless there's roster bonuses due on certain days or something, all the Jets would owe him is his game checks. The way that waivers work, for those who might not know, is that that any team can tell the league they want to claim the player and take on his contract- but if more than one team wants him then he goes to the team with the worst record (and they have a formula for breaking ties between teams with the same record.)
Meh. Antonio Allen has been emerging as of late and I wouldn't want to slow his development by taking away playing time from him and giving it to an old veteran with no future. We are still rebuilding, stay the course.
Maybe we can get Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater and Ty Law back too... Those three broken down shells were great for us after all
would think either Baltimore or the Jets would be most likely landing spot. never know though, he could be interested in latching on with a team like Denver for one last run..
Looking over his contract numbers, it seems as though all the guaranteed money has been paid off except for the remaining game checks (about $437,500 left on $1 million). Reed is arguably the best safety to ever play in the league, but what does he have left in the tank at the age of 35?
Antonio Allen is a strong safety and ed reed is a free safety...not to mention Dawna Landry isn't exactly a young buck like reed...I would imagine he and reed could split time and Allen would not miss any reps...this potential signing has no adverse risk associated with it...I'm all for it...maybe he can help dee milliner and even cro too...he's a future hall of famer
we better claim him we need safety depth and him and rex go way back could be like trevor pryce in 2010
we gotta go after him. we are thin there and Rex loves him like a son. he can get something out of him (barring some crazy undisclosed health issue with him that we dont know about)
I'd sign him in a heart beat. We could use some extra safeties, espeically ones with his level of experiment and caliber as a player.
We have a full roster at safety... Jarrett, Allen, Landry and Bell. I think it could be a good signing but who loses the roster spot?
