Geno brings something to the table as a rookie QB He has a decent pocket presence, a strong arm, some running ability His int's can really only be blamed for one loss (NE) Let's see what the second half of the season brings
Come on guys Geno looked horrible yesterday throwing the ball. Yes, there were a lot of extenuating circumstances and the QB was just asked to not fuck it up. He did not good for Geno good for the Jets. To say he looked good is disingenuous.
This was the first game we had Geno throw under 20 passes, which makes sense as it tied in with our game missing our top two TEs and top 2 WRs. It also tied into a game where we played a team in the bottom 5 of league in stopping the rush and our running game hit 200 yards

I was just waiting for the idiotic "Geno sucks" posts after this win. Here they come. It would help if you understood game situations, game plans, and personnel rather than just looking at numbers. If Smith played the same game,but threw a pick, you'd complain about that and state that all he had to do was protect the ball for the win. He can't win with you people.
To say he looked horrible is completely disingenuous. The only extenuating circumstances yesterday were the Jets had a healthy Ivory and decided to match up blockers on tacklers in the box and we actually go our run game through a D that had sold out. That's pretty much the formula that got us to the playoffs in 09 and 10. That's Rex Ryan football and Geno did a great job running it.
He had eight completions and was very inaccurate when he threw the ball. I never said he sucked I said he threw the ball horribly and he did. It is a tough way to play QB not throw a lot and make a couple great throws. Geno did not make any great throws but managed the game very well. This game does nothing for the development of Geno or tell us all that much about his ability. Most college QB's could have done the same thing yesterday that Geno did not faulting Geno just is what it is. As I said when you are throwing to guys off the street it is a good game plan and almost impossible to throw and the Jets won. Atlanta Geno made plays with his arm yesterday he just did not fuck it up and made a play with his legs.
We know Geno can throw the ball really well. What we didn't know is if he could manage a game. Most college QB's would have screwed that game up. Sanchez as a rookie had a tough time not throwing a pick when he was asked to throw the ball 10 or 15 times with a great running game and the best D in football. This game does a ton for Geno's development.
Did it yesterday. Could be big change to offense coming out of the bye. Also, will be nice to get Holmes, Winslow and Cumberland back.
If he can't get better after the bye week you have to have a QB on the draft board. 8/19 for 115 yards and no completion longer than 7 yards? He threw into triple coverage to David Nelson and had Hill open behind the play for a big gain. Does seem to be partial to chucking the ball to Nelson as a first read.
This had to be about Sanchez didn't it figures? Geno has 13 picks and a great defense and a pretty good run game sound familiar? Sanchez won nine games in '09 he managed the game pretty well. What Sanchez usually did when he managed games was come up with a big completion Geno did not he was carried Yesterday. DC's now have tape on Geno and Marty's offense as well as a decimated receiving core. It will be tougher on Geno form here on in. Geno has proved he has a big arm but has also proved he struggles reading defenses (not A typical for a rookie). If he turns into a game manager he will have good rookie year if he has to win us games with weapons we have we are in trouble. Just as Sanchez in '09 Geno is raw and has shown flashes he needs to know develop into a good QB. That is partly on the Front Office, Coaching Staff and Geno. It will not happen this year.
Sanchez had the best D in the league in 09 and the best running game in the league in 09. He was on his way to playing that team out of the playoffs before they took the ball out of his hands. Geno has been asked to do much more this year then Sanchez had to do in his rookie year. Geno has already won us some games. That's the reason we are in the hunt. Our running game is just starting to get established.
Geno did what he was asked to do. When NO stacked up against the run, he was asked to make a 1st down completion/run and keep the Saints D honest so Ivory can do his thing. Did Geno have a great game? No. But he did not hurt us at all and helped us for the aforementioned reason and thus it was a good day by Geno even if the stats don't want to talk up Geno. Gameplanned says the Saints can't stop the run, why go against that? What does it matter if Geno throws 35 times or 19? How does that matter for his development? Winning helps his development as future games have more and more meaning for Geno and his team.
After going from optimism to pessimism about Smith, and back again, I have settled down with a down the middle approach since the Nashville game. I am waiting to see if Smith can move me in either direction. Yesterday was basically more of the same. Sure he did not turn the ball over - great. He showed more awareness of he blitz - also great. But he did not move the team as he has in the past - not so great. But then the obious game plan for the Jets on O was to pound the running game, which worked - really great. But on balance it was really a game that did not tell us much about Smith. I for example can understand the argument, an observation I have made myself, that yesterday's game plan reminded me of several from Sanchez's first two seasons. But that may have simply been the way to go given the opponent, and it is difficult to make too much out of a single game having that possible, even probable, explanation for hte approach taken by the CS. In one way it's unfortunate that this game came before the bye, since it will no doubt be dissected at greater length due to that factor. I am just not sure it deserves all that much analysis in terms of assessing where Smith really is right now. I think he remains right down teh middle.
One play you bring up.....one play and his lone real bad play. Why not talk up about his TD run or his throws to Sudfeld or Nelson? It is silly to spend another high pick on a QB. We need weapons and playmakers on the skill positions, not a QB. To throw Geno out to the trash after one year would prove the Jets do not deserve to succeed moving forward and that we cannot and will not develop a QB.
