How in the world is Miami unbeatable but NE isn't?! If they play like they did the first half the season 3-4 wins seems right. Cleveland, Carolina, Miamix2, and BUF gives them a good shot at getting 3 there
Suppose the jets are a 5-11 team when all is said & done. Why does that equate to absolute doom & gloom? It's an extremely young football team w/ some clear cut holes being lead by a rookie QB. We knew there would be peaks & valleys. Sure some of the valleys have been brutal but the high points have been extremely encouraging. It's fairly obvious where this team is at. They've got a pretty good young base they can build around. This young base needs to learn how to win games together. Alot of this team's TOP players are still learning the game & growing physically. Unfortunately it takes time. This team is also missing acouple finisher's on D & playmakers on O. With ample cap space, good amount of draft picks & a brand new scouting department..the future looks very bright. Why is the ultra pessimism necessary?
NE is going to finish the season with 10+ wins once again & be in the running for a first week playoff bye. Most games after the bye are winnable.
This pretty much sums it up: "That was ugly, to say the least," Rex said after the game. "We’re really fortunate that it only counts as one loss because you get your butt kicked like that, you know, we’re fortunate that that’s all it is."
The Jets still have a 20-25% shot at the playoffs. It's all about who gets hot down the stretch and the Jets schedule after the bye is: @Buffalo (toss-up), @Baltimore (loss), Miami (favored), Oakland (favored), @Carolina (toss-up), Cleveland (favored), @Miami (underdog). That's a schedule you could get hot against. It's also a schedule you could get lucky against.
Today told me a lot about this team. They aren't consistent enough to handle talented and experienced clubs. This shouldn't surprise anyone here, we are in transition.
The Carolina game in Charlotte is going to be a much tougher game. That's a team that's coming on defensively that's gotten better and starting to look very good.
At least speak proper English if you're going to be a sarcastic and pessimistic prick coming after me. Miami blew a 17-3 lead vs New England today. Baltimore and Oakland aren't cream of the crop teams either. All of these games are extremely winnable.
Because we went 6-10 last year. Because 5-11 would suck. Because we haven't reached the SB since the 60's. I think the team is headed in the right direction, but it's okay to be pessimistic. As a fan, it's okay to be fed up with never winning a title. How many years without a SB will it take for you to get frustrated?
Jets have yet to even play a remotely close game against a physical defense - their last 8 games are all pretty physical in your face defenses. If Geno doesn't get his act together they might not win another game.
Its only going to take 9, maybe 10 wins.... even if you think we would be a 1 and done, it's still nice to be optimistic about our team that was predicted to be a top 3 team in the 2014 draft. I am content with 4-4, and we were able to make it through this month either 1 game over or under .500 which we should all consider a success.
This is the fight for the 6 seed. San Diego still has to play KC and Denver twice, plus Oakland, Denver, and Cinci - so they will not be 6. The teams that will be fighting for that spot are all on the Jets schedule so if they make it they have to earn it. San Diego 4 3 NY Jets 4 4 Tennessee 3 4 Baltimore 3 4 Oakland 3 4 Miami 3 4 0
The Bucs were a very physical defense when the Jets played them. Outstandingly so right down to taking a 15 yard personal foul penalty on the next to last play of the game on an out of bounds hit. The Patriots in game 2 with Wilfork and Mayo still on the field, 3 point game. It's not like the Jets haven't played physical teams and held things close this year. They've also gotten blown out. LG was a JAG and is now a rookie. That's a problem.
TEN is lurking and has the H2H. We still get to play OAK, MIA and BAL so we can knock them down a peg in the race with H2H wins over them. We have to sweep Buffalo, split with Miami, and take the CLE game. That gives us 7. That means we need 2 more to get to 9 from BAL/CAR/NO/OAK. Really, the BAL and OAK are more important[/I] than the CAR and NO games if we are just finding a way to get 9. If you can only take 2 from then 4 of BAL/CAR/NO/OAK, you want to beat the AFC teams. It's definitely not that unrealistic for the Jets to be in the WC hunt late in the season. Heading into the bye at 4-5 would be better than expected, heading into at 5-4 would set us up really nicely.
We'll get torched next week and go into the BYE at 4-5. The good news is, after the BYE none of the teams we play are big time passing offenses. We might actually be able to keep these teams below 24 points. Plus, we'll have Wnslow and Holmes to help us make a run.
It's doom and gloom because I have a lot of bets going that we would win at least 7. I'm out of pocket a lot of money if we win 5.
