If Geno is going to be the QB of the future he will need to cut down the interceptions, I like most of the rest of his game as it's progressing though he still needs to polish many of those aspects. But the Interception decisions (I wasn't able to watch today's game due to cable issues) is a back breaker. But it is still his rookie year and as much as I don't like the turnovers I give all rookies a lot of room for growing pains, same with second year players. I'll also cut a little slack for the rookie because of the O-line issues this year and not really having an established veteran receiver on the field consistently to lean on in his rookie year. That said if he's still playing like this next season he'll be downgraded quickly, unlike Sanchez the Jets didn't invest a #1 pick (which they traded up to get) and thanks to the NFL rookie slotting system they aren't tied in to him for big bucks for the first 4 years. But, lets all remember he's a rookie and he's going to make those mistakes this year, he's shown signs of progressing in most of his game but the Interceptions, as I said, will be a backbreaker for his career if they continue in to next season.
He had his good moments but his decision making today was terrible. I hope he's learning from these games.
Geno's two bad throws were when the game was on the ropes. I don't know how much stock to put into this performance other than the team got blasted all around and Geno forced things down 3 and 4 TDs. This clearly hurts Genos stats, but overall I don't think tells us much about him. The only thing I saw besides two bad, forced throws was in FG range he avoided the sack and picked up 3-5 yards on a throw when in the past he would backpedal into a sack and take us out of FG range or force a throw to take points off the board. Overall, I don't think this game will be an important in judging Geno's season at the end of the year
Every sane person knows that the Jets are better than they showed today. They're also not as consistently good as they showed against NE either. This is the problem with inflated expectations after every win. They become unrealistic. Then when they come back to earth, the overreactions begin.
You mean the second half of NE. They aren't as bad as the majority of the first half either. They are a middling, average team. They can beat bad teams, albeit requiring some luck, and they can let everything go wrong and lose big. They aren't great as the biggest homers though they would be, but they aren't as bad as the experts predicts (3 wins Peter King, really?). They are an average team with a rookie QB and an inconsistent team. Really we are on pace for 8-8 and if we neded that way, that would be accurate representation of our team
Both INts were after the game out of hand. The 1st INT he was throwing to Nelson but Kerley's man was to clsoe to Nelson and geno did not not expect him to be there. The 2nd INT was terrible. Pac Man was sitting on that route waiting to make a play. But thats what happens when your down big. I am not sure one can read anything into them. While the game was still a game Geno played well and showed progress. Geno's play had nothing to do with the loss. He was one fo the few bright spots of the 1st half. The problem is our OL is much worse than last year and so is our secondary. We will have games like this when we play teams as talented as the Bengals.
Yeah overall, I think when judging Geno this will just be one of those games. The two INTs came down what 22 and 30? They are still terrible throws, but the ones in the NE game in the RZ or first NE game hurt much more.
So when we get this win via the combination of a last minute freak penalty and a super long range field goal Geno is the next Joe Montanta. Yet, win or lose, turnover after turnover, Geno can do no wrong. Maybe we need to take off the training wheels, stop grading on a curve, and look at where we stand at starting QB. Next year there will be first round QBS (next Andrew Luck?) and free agent QBs (next Alex Smith?) available that could help us start out at 7-0 or 5-2 instead of wondering each week if our starting QB will throw that critical interception this week or if he will luck out and avoid accountability for his errant throws. I am very impressed with the development of Cumberland, Kerley, and Powell but have some grave concerns about Geno Smith.
Kerley did not complete the route on that one. Kerley broke off the out route because the CB was playing outside leverage and sitting on the out route Not sure if that is something the WRs are allowed to do or what. CBs sit on routes when they don't respect the WRs they are covering. Pacman knows Nelson can't beat him deep.
Lol really? Grave concerns about a rookie who has us at 4-4 with absolutely no talent in the skills positions?
So when did I say Geno was the next Joe Montana? Please find that. I've criticized Geno a ton, maybe you should read what I post overall because you are 0-2 right now. What training wheels? The Jets don't have to make a decision on Geno until the end of the year, probably best to fully judge him then instead of overreacting game to game. We need to know what Geno brings to this team at the end of 16 games, not 8. I like your optimism, but we have to add more than just a QB like Alex Smith to go 7-0. We need to shore up the WR position, add some depth to that OL, youth movement at LB. Holmes is probably gone next year, meaning the number 1 receiver is Kerley. Kerley is a great receiver, but he needs some help and can't beat double teams. Cumberland has been as frustrating as Geno. He dropped 2 critical passes against NE, dropped a big one in ATL he ended up catching on 3rd down, and comes and goes from game to game. Like Geno, you see the flashes, you just want him to build on that consistently which he hasn't done.
I only think one INT against NE was bad. The one when we were on the cusp of FG range on 3rd down when he threw on the run to Holmes. That was a very bad play given the circumstances of the game. The 2nd one was fine it was 3rd down and he took a chance. We lost a whole 15 yards on it if we had thrown an inc and punted. Not a bad tradeoff. The third one was in the last seconds and looked to be on Hill either not locating the ball or turning the wrong way. But it could have been on Geno thinking Hill was going to turn out. Regardless that 3rd INT was a risky throw it up and take a chance at winning the game. Nothing wrong with that no matter if it was on Geno or Hill. A lot of the INTs he has thrown have not been to bad but there have been some really bad ones. The 2nd Buffalo INT, 1st NE, 2nd Tenn, 1st Pitt and the one last week against NE. Those were all very bad decisions based on the play and circumstances of the game. Throwing 2 garbage INTs like did today trying to get us back in the game. I have no problem with. I am glad he is willing to take a chance rather than worry about his own personal stat sheet.
Geno needs to protect the football a lot better, it's as simple as that. What does he have 4 pick sixes in two weeks? Completely unacceptable.
Geno is one of the worst QBs in the NFL right now. No one has a crystal ball, but as of now he's terrible.
Meh, he was terrible today, but its not like we haven't seen this before. If its his 4th season and he's still playing like this then we have problems. As of right now ill chalk it up to a learning experience and I'm glad he was pissed off about it. I wish he wasn't so up and down but you get what you get with these young guns especially with the lack of talent. I fully expect him to bounce back, but I'm not going to anoint him when he does. Too many highs and lows with this team. The worst thing they can do is worry about this game going forward. Put it in the rear view. That means putting together a good gameplan for New Orleans and taking some pressure of the kid. I worry about the veteran defense and how to fix that over a rough outing from the young QB on the road. If they do the unthinkable and play Simms or go extra conservative with the kid Sunday I will be quite pissed off
