I know it is early in his career, but if you had to pick another quarterback, current or former, who reminds you of Geno Smith at this time in his development. Who would it be and why?
McNabb. Powerful arm, bit turnover prone early on, ability to scramble (but only when needed), shitty receivers
To me Geno is a bit unique but if I had to pick somebody whose style he reminds me of it would be John Elway. Not the same caliber of prospect but very similar in terms of how they attack a defense. When Schiano was asked the question 3 years ago when he was head coach of Rutgers he said the guy that Geno reminded him of was Joe Namath at Alabama before the knee operations.
Sorry but it's really way too early to be comparing him to anyone at the moment. While Geno is winning me over a bit (still iffy), we really need to have him play out the entire year to make any sort of decent comparisons. These names are a little over the top (no offense).
I just don't see the Kaepernick comparison, especially in terms of throwing the football. In my opinion, Kap has one of the better arms around. Not to say Geno doesn't have a good arm though.
He's already shown the knack for late game comebacks and the ability to run when necessary without taking the devastating hit amongst other qualities so I'll compare to Russell Wilson.
I see some similarities to Kaep. Although Kaep is a better runner and his arm is a little better but they play some what similar.
Geno reads the game better then Kaepernick in my opinion. Kaep is just hype and Geno got a gun too and his throwing spiral is way better and more accurate then Kaep. Kaep can scramble better tho.
McNabb? He's one of the least accurate great QBs in NFL history, plus he is a true running QB, a beast unlike Geno who runs when a play breaks down. McNabb is from my alma mater, have seen every game he played in college and most of his games in the NFL. Loved him at Cuse, but nearly half of his snaps were designed runs in a spread option offense and he was woefully inaccurate and was probably even less accurate in Philly. Geno is MUCH more accurate thrower but not 1/2 the runner. Pick another black QB to compare him to if you must, McNabb is a totally different player. _
With a combination of Johnny Unitas and Sammy Baugh, with a little Otto Graham and John Elway mixed in. Also some Roger Staubach. And Bart Starr. _
