http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/21/texans-make-a-statement-by-releasing-three/ Third round pick out of LSU cut because of something at the hotel they stayed at. He's got the size to play OLB in a 3-4 system. We know that the Jets have been signing and cutting OLBs almost every week now, maybe this guy can be it. He was very productive at LSU, and he should be able to transition from DE to OLB. What do ya think?
I was a big fan of Montgomery when he was coming out of LSU. I would have no problem if the Jets picked him up.
Very tough as we are struggling to cut some people to make room on the roster for him. He might have the size, but that doesnt mean he's figured out how to play 3-4 pass rushing OLB.
I get you, but the team is obviously not big on Ricky Sapp, and they've cut and signed Scott Solomon a few times now. It's clear that Idzik likes to mess around with the bottom of the roster trying to find contributors, and I would see this move as just that.
Has work ethic problems, would not be a good add with the chemistry we have. We have a stacked D-Line too, who do you cut? Douzable? I don't think he can find success as a 3-4 OLB, should be a 4-3 DE.
I say give him a try! Can't hurt. As for who to cut, simple Sapp or Troy Davis! Personally I would cut Sapp, has done nothing and can't stay healthy!
Wow, he was considered to be a top 10 prospect last year and now this. Sure why not sign him. That transition is hard to make from DE to OLB and it wasn't necessarily for performance although it did play a part. Id welcome him with open arms and I'm sure Rex would get the absolute most out of him out of any coach in the league. SIGN THIS BEAST
This exactly. It can't hurt at all, and Idzik has been constantly moving around the bottom of the roster. I to would cut Sapp. Mainly because he's been on the team for a couple years now, and still hasn't done anything. Troy Davis didn't show me anything in preseason, but he's younger.. and he's got a badass name.
Most of the time when a rookie is cut for behavioral problems it is a flashing red flag on his ability to have a successful NFL career. The issues that Sam Montgomery have had are not completely clear but they go back to LSU and they were apparent in Houston from the moment he arrived out of shape and wound up on the non-football injury list in camp.
Rather not waste a spot.. Have a good thing going in the locker room now, we don't need another cancer to come in and ruin that.
Guy has been a problem dating back to college...came out of camp out of shape, couldn't make the adjustment to outside linebacker and is way too small to be a 3-4 DE. No. thank. you.
Sign him!!! I remember a lot of mocks earlier in the year had him as an option to us in the mid-1st round. Obviously he fell off quite a bit but there's a ton of potential here
