I went apeshit when Geno threw the pick six but he played a very good game overall. The Bengals and Saints are both dangerous opponents. I hope Geno can string a few more of these good games together.
I'm just not going to get ahead of Geno on predicting where he will wind up. So far I've seen enough to know he can play in the NFL. I've seen flashes that suggest he can be very good. When those flashes coalesce into very good play then I'll go there. I learned my lesson from Mark Sanchez. Don't fall in love with a young QB before he's actually done something to deserve it. Potential is great. The wayside is littered with it.
He is definitely starting to step up in the pocket but he is still holding the ball too long. He's waiting for guys to get open when the ball should be coming out quicker. That throw in the end zone to Hill that was defended- he gets that ball out a split second sooner and it's a TD to a wide open Hill. Defender should have had no business being there in time. _
Damn it. You stole my thunder. I was just about to post this. In both his TD pass and one he stepped up instead of ran backward to avoid the edge rushers.
This. Geno played well enough to win this game. That INT was horrendous, but he got it out of his head, and played well the rest of the game.
What a game. Geno had a great game aside from that 1 pass...Cumberland dropped two big passes (one a touchdown) and Hill's TD was not a PI
The last 2 weeks, the first plays of each game that I got to see were Geno's first interceptions... Im not sure how thats possible, I guess I have horrible luck. He played very well outside of that INT. It seemed like 80-90% of his throws were right on target. Cumberland dropped a TD in the endzone, Hill got called on that PI that probably would have been a TD anyway... Either way, he's looked good for most of this year minus a few plays here and there. I just hope next week we see the good Geno.
Hardly, but I think the main point with the PI is that McCourty was going to pass the ball while he was in the air despite what little shove Hill gave him.
McCourty had a shot on a pick- if that was a Patriot WR there'd be dozens of posters here bitching that it was OBVIOUS offensive pass interference. At some point you need to take off the green glasses, it was the right call. Just like the FG call was the right call, that was also ticky tack but it was the right call. _
He's a perfect QB to have if you're down two scores....no lead is out of reach with his arm. I think we finally have a QB...
After watching the game today couldt yesterday cuz of work. I really liked what ive seen he needs to improve on pocket awarness but thats with time. Also footwork they rarely make him throw without the shotgun snap.
Smith was hurt by the PI call on Hill, which was bs, and some drops including catchable balls by Cumberland. But it's also true that after the pick six, he was only 9 for 21 for 92 yards, while he was 8 for 12 for 141 before the pick six. To some extent that was drops. To some extent it was probably some adjustments by the NE CS. but we can't really say he was unaffected by the pick six. And don't forget the fumbles that the Jets luckily recovered. I think he showed progress certainly on a game to game basis. but at least on this game and despite the game winning drive in OT (which was mostly runs) I can't say he got better as the game went on. Still, a win is a win, and he did look better stepping up into the pocket. Nice runs, too.
if you clean up the turnovers/bad decision you have a player you can win with - above average game manager who can pick up firsts with his legs and is deadly accurate on deep balls. can you cut down the turnovers is the challenge... we couldnt do it with sanchez. although make had alot more to work with and didnt bring the positive geno does to offset the turnovers a bit(running ability/big play ability). im not super optomistic, but im not pessimistic either. i think he can be solid. coaching staff really needs to do a much better job emphasizing ball protection and discipline penalty wise
this guy is the anti sanchez in everyway possible he throws the ball deep with velocity, sanchez throws deep like 7 year old girl geno is accurate/ sanchez couldnt hit a broad sign of a barn geno throws a pick and then forgets it and moves on/ sanchez would sulk for a quarter
Geno isn't getting 1/4 of the hype around this time that those trio of misfit rookie qb's were getting last year.
