Giants wont go QB and they wont be high enough to get Clowney who will go top 3. They will find a way to win some games. Just not enough for the playoffs. Tough to complain about draft positioning when you can get stars anywhere in the first. We just got Sheldon last year and its hard to imagine me liking a player out of this draft more than him. we got Mo Wilk with the 30th pick too.
I think the Giants will win at least 4 or 5 games. Bridgewater and Clowney will be gone by then. They'll probably get one of the few top-flight left tackles coming out. Jake Matthews to the Giants is my prediction.
I'd like to think that in 5 years time people will be saying how lucky we were to have Geno Smith fall to 39 and how it is unbelievable that he was not the first pick in the draft. I truly believe we drafted a franchise guy in Geno.
It is right up there with not allowing Belichick the autonomy he wanted as head coach, so Bellicheat resigned after one day as NYJ's HC. Imagine a decade of Peyton and Belichick? Tuna screwed us in more ways than one. But hey we got a 12-4 1998 with a brutal loss to the Broncos. Jesus hates the Jets.
We took Keyshawn with that first overall pick. would not have been possible to get both Peyton and Keyshawn.
We need speed on offense in the draft next year. That's abundantly clear by seeing the lack of playmakers on this offense. Whether it's a RB or WR, we need to draft speed and playmaking in round 1.
We took Keyshawn with that first overall pick. would not have been possible to get both Peyton and Keyshawn.
We took Keyshawn in '96. We traded down the '97 pick twice and wound up taking James Farrior in the end. The #1 pick that year was Orlando Pace, who played in 2 Super Bowls in the next 5 seasons. Peyton Manning would have been the #1 pick and Pace would have gone #2 if the Jets kept the pick. Best guess is that Parcells would have had a field day trading the pick down when it was either Manning or Pace.
Easy on this years draft class. Yes Clowney looks like great player but the shine has worn off a bit. The fact he seems like he is playing not to get hurt worries some about how he performs in contract year. I don't think Johnny Football is a sure fire great pro- (might not come out) bridgewater looks good but he is not Andrew Luck .
Bridgewater is the only player that you look at right now, the way this season is going down, and think he's a bonafide #1 overall. Clowney clearly was in that class before he got hurt and his college coach started taking veiled shots at him. Warren Sapp went #12 in 1995. Would it be all that shocking if Clowney fell to #6 next year?
In all fairness to Manning, Archie Manning said a few years ago that Archie wanted Peyton to come out and play for the Jets but only if Parcells would guarantee the Jets would take Peyton. Archie said he called Parcells and no gurantee was made therefore Peyton stayed in school. We ended up so close to getting Marino, Favre (where the Cards changed their mind on the trade up that would have gotten us Favre at the last second) and Manning. All could have been Jets. Hopefully Geno finally is our guy.
As with most things in life, its all in the timing. The Jets have been guilty of bad circumstance for decades. Peyton Manning comes to mind immediately. Finally, we seem to be on the right side of circumstances for once. That wasn't always the case.
We've got a team that's on the upswing and the Giants look like they're headed for a downturn that's gonna take a long time to recover from. I'd rather be in our position then theirs.
Johnny Football says hello. He's made a strong case to be the #1 player overall with great games against the best competition. Bridgewater has done it against mostly nobodies. The media has already painted Manziel a bust in the pros for whatever reason and many have bought into this. The arm strength is there and his size isn't as big a concern as they're making it out to be. I think him and Bridgewater are 1and 1A. Edit: Looks like Manziel may have just suffered a knee injury.
I'll take wins no matter who's in the draft. I'm not going to be upset that the Jets aren't the worst team in the NFL the year of a good draft. I will say it is very coincidental that the Colts get Peyton Manning, and the second coming of him, they got #1 both years the best QB of the decade was declaring. Just odd...
Not many people remember this. For the life of me I have no idea WTF Parcells was thinking. That move and staying on as GM which caused us to lose Belichick really set back the franchise till even today. I'm a big fan of Parcells as our coach, but later on in his career his ego got in the way too a few too many times. We ended up trading out of the spot and picking up James Farrior and a bunch of nobodies.
While I agree, it wouldn't shock me that if the best CB in the draft is available when the Jets pick that they wouldn't take him. Rex has shown that whomever the GM is, his voice is heard loudly in the draft process. I do not believe there's anyway possible that without Rex's influence that the Jet's go DL 3 years in a row. That's what leads me to believe that he could convince Idzy that CB is a need that has to be addressed in round 1. What scares me about my possible scenario unfolding is that with Rex's influence they haven't drafted nearly as well with CB's as they've done with D-line. Jury is out on what Dee will be, at best it's off to a worrisome start, at worst he will prove to be a fragile player that's over-matched by NFL calibre players and was just a small piece on a superior college defense.
