dont dare to fire Rex! anyone got the gif of that crucial 3rd down blitz that he putted cro alone deep with julio jones?
As much as the front 7 showed some good in this game, the defense was Jekyll & Hyde. How many times did we get a 3 & Out? ZERO. How many times did we make them punt? A whopping TWO punts! Time of Possession differential? They had the ball 11 more minutes. First downs? They had 20. M Ryan complete 36 passes. The secondary is really bad. I swear every time the ball is thrown at Cromartie, you see him pulling the WR's jersey. I really hope Millner can come back and contribute. Again, as much as the DEF had moments, they still gave up the leads at the end. That's twice in 5 games they've done that. Penalties were down, which id good, except it was in costly situations (thankfully we stuff the end of half run). Good defenses don't let the offense win games, they close them.
Atlanta is about Match ups you cant avoid Tony to get the ball if not 2 vs 1 and if you do that there is always someone open either for a screen or a run or Julio and roddy... atlanta will be 9-7 at worse at the end of the season if not 10-6.
We are actually 5th in yards allowed but who's counting? http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense
I'm sick of hearing that our D didn't close it out. We stuffed them on 4th down and the refs gave them a phantom PI call. total bullshit. Give any competent offence extra downs and they will burn you. The game shouldn't have come down to a winning drive by the O but turned put to be a good thing, season defining drive and the Jets make a big statement.
we don't have the best D in the league, we have the makings of the best D in the league thanks to our front 7 but we need help in the secondary.
Sorry this is the modern NFL there is almost no such thing as closing it out especially in a dome against one of the best offenses in the league.
But where in Quinton Coples? Has this guy been almost non existent? I know he had a hand in the big stop at the end of the first half, but haven't really seen much from him. Wasn't he supposed to be our edge rusher?
I understand that points allowed is a stat that reflects field position to some extent, meaning where taking into account the contributions or lack thereof by the O and special teams. But on the other hand teams do not win games by giving up the least total yardage. They win by outscoring the opponent. Last night was a case in point. The Jets actually gave up more yards than Atlanta - 363 v. 288. And actually the Jets were also helped by an edge on special teams yardage, and Folk's two FG's. And Atlanta's decision to go for the TD and fail at the end of the second half. And i consider Atlanta's D below average. So what are we celebrating again? Oh yeah, a great win. Not where the D is for a single and somewhat misleading stat. Moving on here...
Being wrongly misused. He is not an OLB/Edge rusher. He's better suited at 3-4DE or 43DT where he can use speed & strength to push/evade the interior OL. I saw him on a few plays drop in coverage and he looked out of place. Just my 2cents, but that's my amateur couch coaching.
it has alot to do with the prevent defense called in 4th QTR'S. It seems to me to really hurt any defense that is playing well to go to a prevent defense. I think this is even more amplified when you have a aggressive defensive like we do. I hope Barnes is ok and would like to see Coples improve edge rush- timely sacks in the 4th qtr could make us really great defense. Think backk to last night the one play that nearly caused a turnover that was an aggressive pash rush that forced Ryan to throw a moon ball that Wall almost run under. We need to dial it up for 4 qtr's regardless of score.
give it the eye test they played well last night. Cromartie was one on one with one of fastest most physical recievers in football. He shut him down other then an amazing one hand catch. Ryan completed 36 passes but they were real dink and dunk and the defense kept everything in front of them. In the first half our front 7 trashed there offensive line. They played well last night.
I like to laugh at fans like you who think that every thing should be perfect. It's a cap driven league. You really need to learn a lot about football and play less madden.
unless u r the 85 bears or 00 ravens - the defensive stats are gonna be skewed by a zillion factors. the jets have a very good D, so far a top 5 D, and that is good enough to allow them to win games. sacks, turnovers, 3rd down D, yards after catch, defensive penalties are some of those subcategory D stats that are at least just as important as yards/points allowed. i had some doubts coming into this year but davis and harris have performed great and the D line has remained healthy and stout. does it have some deficiencies - of course, but who doesn't . the need is still there for a clay matthews type of edge player and i hope that could be addressed next off season.
Barnes doesn't have a lot of sacks but he was getting pressure on QBs, I hope his injury isn't serious. Things changed a little when he went out.
