I was doing all the numbers in my head to try to make sense out of it for Ryan and couldnt come up with any. Make at 27-14 and we kick a field goal to go up 30-14 and they still can do with two scores? You need to go for two there. Rex...take the good with the bad and when we win its easier to put up with his dumb challenges etc. I like the guy...just pheeewww....confusing to say the least.
Folk didn't miss the kick. Not going for 2 didn't make a difference. You play to win the game, and take the guaranteed points. Extra point = 99% chance of success. 2 point conversion = less than 50% chance of success. You can't predict everything, and the odds are not in your favor. The Jets aren't exactly playing to give up 2 TDs at that point in the 4th quarter. It it were within a single score, I'd agree, but based on the way the team is built, there's no reason to risk it. The only reason it even got close was due to phantom penalties.
This isnt madden. You dont go for two unless you have to. Absolutely zero reason to go for teo there. But of course hindsight is 20/20 and there is no lack of know it alls who could have all done better...
For any of the lost souls in this thread and more importantly Rex who think kicking is a good idea there...what exactly is the difference between being up 12 vs 13? Think about it for a few months and get back to me with a logical reason please. Anyway this is the exact type of shit that is going to eventually get Rex fired. Misusing challanges, poor clock management, ticky tack bullshit that can easily be solved by just having one strategically competent person on the payroll to explain to Rex what the fuck he needs to do during these moments. Luckily it hasn't cost us wins yet this year like it easily could've vs Buffalo with the challenges or tonight but it goes to show that those dumbass decisions always come back to bite you in the ass. I've always been a Rex supporter and still am but it's maddening to watch him try to throw away game after game with this dumb shit. We finally have a real OC and the playcalling is night and day, hope to hell there is a way to make progress in this area next.
Absolutely right. Rex definitely should have gone for 2 there. The ONLY reason going for 2 there can backfire is if you think Atlanta has time to score on 3 more possessions, and you think the Falcons going TD-FG-FG was more likely than going TD-TD. And at the same time, if you GET the 2 point conversion, the TD-FG-FG scenario is completely negated, and the more likely TD-TD scenario now is protected against. I said it at the time to people I was with, and nobody agreed with me.
Yeah and for every 1 time in 50 that the opponent has time to go TD FG FG and actually succeeds at doing that scenario and nothing else you still have a 50/50 chance to lose in overtime. So maybe 1 time in 100 give or take you fail the 2 point conversion and cost yourself the game. But hey it's no big deal to be doing the wrong thing in 99% of scenarios, right?
It's a pretty big stretch to think they would get a TD AND two FG's in twelve minutes. Especially since Mike Smith coached like he didn't know who the kicker was. Going for two was the absolute right call at the right time, but Rex has no idea about situational football.
The guys in the booth are idiots for not mentioning it. Shows how the media does not know anymore then fans. Rex did a great job with the team and the defense was really prepared but once again, he does not know how to manage a game. And how bout someone on the sideline telling him. This is the worst decision he has ever made. I hate to say it, but you know who will bring it up at 1pm. Anyway, all is good in Jetville and we could be playing for 1st place in 2 weeks. Cant wait to get to the lot!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.theredzone.org/Features/TwoPointConversionChart.aspx See page 146 for DUMMIES http://books.google.com/books?id=pb...e&q=2 point conversion chart football&f=false
youre making zero sense. youre not risking anything. The Jets werent planning on giving up two TDs? What the fuck does that mean??? They DID give up the two TDs. And we would have been tied at that point. The extra point is meaningless there. With 12 minutes left, the NO BRAINER call is to go for two there.
Obviously looking back it would have been wise but there was a lot of time left. I don't like going for 2 that early but I would have been ok with it.
On the surface nothing and I was playing through the scenarios in my head that moment but what if Atl scores w/ 2 mins left like they did they would go for 2 and we assuming they convert and we don't we are down 29-26 and the Fg only ties the game instead of winning it.
youre wrong dude......12 minutes left! The Falcons had two scoring drives and it left 2 minutes on the clock. Theres no chance teh Falcons are scoring a TD and two FGs there. The only thing that can kill us there is the two TDs...which obviously happened. It was the wrong call. Thats why theres a chart. So you dont have to think about it.
I think most coaches tend to go for 2 way too early, it's just my personal philosophy. We assume we make it but what if we miss it? what if Atl converts one? then we are taking our chances in OT and everyone is complaining about going for 2 too early. I would have been fine either way but I prefer not to go for 2 until we have to.
Should've gone for 2. Easy, easy decision. Rex botched that big time. These are the types of things that he HAS to get right. It didn't burn him last night - but things like that will burn you. I also thought he shouldn't have challenged the fumble early in the game, once again he showed he doesn't give a shit about his challenges. The 2 point conversion was much worse though. Had Geno not performed a miracle that decision would be the story of the game. Lets not "pooh pooh" it just because they won.
totally agree ,but sadly par for the forum ,some people just find it hard to move on..Some will no doubt have spent the whole night in bed seething and doing the math over n over
