why didn't they go for 2? Jets score in 4th quarter to give them a 12 point lead. Why the hell don't they go for 2? After Kerley's punt return, I started thinking IF jets score a TD they better go for 2. What good does a 13-point lead in the 4th quarter get you , that a 12 point lead (assuming you don't convert) doesn't? Of course if you DO convert then they can't beat you with 2 tds and 2 XPs. Rex Ryan should be fired. He has no idea what a real coach would do.
no...it was too early. Going for 2 there would be foolish because being up by 5 allows 2 FGs to beat you
There was no reason to not go for it. Either we make it and we would have been up by 7 or we miss and be down by 5 which is just as good as being down by 6 at that point.
This is of course true. There were 12 minutes left, plenty of time for Atlanta to have 3 drives, and then win with a TD and 2 FGs. People assume a 2 point conversion will work, but they're only successful about half of the time.
You for two there in my opinion. 2 TDs wins it for the Falcons down 12 or 13, but only ties it down 14. Also, there probably wasn't time for 3 Falcons possessions as the Jets were letting them go underneath all game.
I was scratching my head too. If they kick he XP and the Jets kick a FG. ATL loses. If they go for 2 and miss and Jets kick a FG, they lose. If they get the 2 pt and the Jets kick a FG they go to OT. there was nothing to lose by going for 2
^ you guys who want to kick the xp are all lost. It's not even a debate. As soon as we got into the end zone Atlanta was done kicking FG's. You make the game 28-14 or you don't make it and leave it at 26-14. There's zero advantage to making it 27-14. If they score two TD's you need a FG to win at 26 OR 27. You go for two. It's not debatable.
Yeah that would have sucked if we lost by 1. They usually wait till when you need it . We were not trailing all game plus we won so I guess he gets a pass. When your up by 13 , You don't feel the need as a coach.
Here's the bigger mistake -- Atl should have elected to kick a field goal before halftime. That is a much worse judgment call IMO.
I think NFL coaches go for 2 too quickly , but going for 2 up 26-14 with 12 minutes left against this offense was a no brainier. The offense and Folk bailed Ryan out.
In the longrun it didn't make the least bit of difference in the game. Whether it was tied or we were down 1, we still needed a FG to win the game. I guess the Rex haters need some thread to congregate in after a win. Keep criticizing from your couches. LOL
LOL, your logic is patently absurd. If Folk misses that kick, we lose the game. If we had gotten a two-point conversion (Certainly a big IF), Folk missing that kick would have landed us in overtime. Going for two was a no-brainer in that situation. You don't deviate from the chart in the 4th quarter.
Agreed. With that little time left in the game, FGs were out of the question for Atlanta. Shocked there are actually people on this board who think otherwise. Tirico and Gruden didn't really mention it either.
