Seems to be taking a lot of heat in Houston. There's even some talk of the Texans parting ways with him after the season. If it reaches that point, should the Jets consider him? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/schaub-under-pressure-houston-005015344--nfl.html
for the price he'd cost as bad as he has looked in the clutch? I've followed Schaub since UVA and went to some of his games and I just don't think he'd be the answer you look for.
and it could put another 3 years between now and the jets having a real qb they can count on to be a difference maker. hes one of those guys who plays just good enough to keep his job but not good enough to be a champion. i dont like those type of guys anymore.
I'm not fervently arguing in favor of Schaub, just considering some "big picture" possibilities. Let's say the team misses the playoffs again and Geno is still looking very Sanchezlike at the end of the season. Obviously, team has to look for their QB of the future in the draft, but that probably means going with a rookie, Geno, and another back-up type for 2014. Not a great situation if the rook isn't an immediate impact guy. Don't know the financial implications of acquiring him, but from an on-field stand point, Schaub could be the perfect stop-gap quarterback.
If the Jets were considering Schaub it should have been done when he was in Atlanta and on the block. He's damaged goods at this point. He can put up elite numbers but he is a guy who proves stats aren't the tell all sign.
Lol, are you guys kidding me? I would kill for a Schaub type QB on this team. He may not be a franchise QB, but he isn't a bottom 10 QB either. Top 10-15.
He's still a top fifteen QB. I wouldn't bet on him taking us to the Promised Land, but he could get us in the playoffs while also providing us with the time to properly develop our franchise quarterback. Again, I'm not gung-ho to acquire him, but I think we should at least consider the possibility if Geno doesn't improve.
Schaub is a lot better than what we currently have. It might not be a bad idea, at least for a few years while we hunt for the QB of the future in the drafts and/or get Geno ready. Geno needs time to develop. I'd much rather see him learning behind Schaub or another veteran QB than seeing him get thrown to the wolves. I wish we could trade for him now, but I doubt that happens unless they start choking out of playoff contention.
It truly depends what you want, if you get a top 5-10 pick and can get that franchise QB and still afford to sign Schuab and that guy and are willing to keep Schuab around for a year or two go for it. The problem is Schuab is still a good enough QB to not be a stop gap. He's no Hassleback or David Garrard. He's still good enough to start for most teams but whoever picks him up would need to make a commitment to him and not draft a guy who is going to take his job in a year. A team like Minnesota or Cleveland would be good spots as it's obvious Ponder or Hoyer/Weeden are not long term answers.
It's really a shame he threw that pick six and is getting shit on now. He quarterbacked a masterful game for 57 minutes, 355 yards passing against the best defence in the league.
Schaub would come to the Jets, look around at his skill players and ask wtf was going on. Seriously, he's had real help in Houston and he hasn't gotten them over the top, which is why they're considering moving on from him. Not saying the Jets would not be better with him at QB right now, because they would, but they probably wouldn't win anything important. He's not that kind of QB.
I'm interested in acquiring an experienced QB instead of spending another 4-5 years waiting for a QB to develop.
