Would anybody be opposed to going after Brian Orakpo in the offseason?

Washington may try to lock him up long term, but there's always the possibility that they let him field offers. Washington has a lot of holes and may let him go to fill other voids.

I think Orakpo could thrive in our defense. paired with our DLine and Coples our front 7 becomes even more deadlier.

he did have a few injury problems, but if we could get him for 6-8 mil a year I'd be all for it.

I have a friend who is a die hard Skins fan, drove him nuts when Landry came over to NY, if Orakpo ended up here, that would be nuts. Dude is a solid LB and is a serious playmaker, he could easily be the double digit sack guy we've been needing if we did get him, but I think he resigns.

If we are going to spend big money on a FA id rather it be on an offensive player. Orakpo would be a luxury. I'd rather fill a spot we need.

Rather spend that money on Jimmy Graham. Or keep the cap cash for the in-house talent we will need to resign eventually.

I'd like to see how this season plays out first. We could have our pass rushing OLB in Coples.

And if we do i'd rather invest that money on the offensive side of the ball.

Jimmy would cost a fortune, dude is the best TE in the game, maybe when both healthy Gronkowski is better, but Graham does a better job of staying on the field. Anyways, I would rather save that money for in house extensions.

If we spend some money in free agency I'd prefer it to be on the O-Line

draft skill players through the draft for 1 reason

you can develop them into the kind of player you want him to be

offensive free agents are very risky

honestly I would probably grab a cheap TE to compete and some O-linemen

thats all for offense in free agency

agreed on the in house. mo wilk and kerley are coming due soon. doing it early would leave room to make the contracts a little friendlier.
as far as graham, i'd rather we keep with the mid to low range f.a.s. its better to get 3-4 solid role players maybe a starter than a tie up the money in 1 guy.1 injury looks devestating to the roster and there is usually a void in depth in other areas.

keep rolling over guys that haven't gotten a shot or need a change of scenery and we will have a solid roster top to bottom

If we HAD to spend money on one big FA it would be him, but I definitely want to use that money for the talent we develop in-house.

I agree though - maybe a few mid-tier FAs to fill out the roster for depth. I just don't want to do what we did in 2008, and go out and sign everyone in FA.

Orakpo is 28 next year. He had a serious injury last year. He hasn't had double-digit sacks since his rookie year in 2009.

He's exactly the kind of big name free agent trap that the Jets should avoid.

He's a good player but save the money to pay MoWilk, Coples, Davis, Richardson and yeah maybe Harrison too. The Jets have a lot of talent in the front 7 right now. The way to get the OLB they need is to draft a couple of people and pay them on the cheap for a few years until they can figure out who is worth the $6-8M.

If we were in more of a position to win now, sure. But as of right now i dont see it. I want as much cap space as possible and i think we should put our selves in position to sign our own guys.

Idzik's whole mantra has been "competition" and fielding a "young and fast" team. While I do agree that Orakpo is a bad ass, he does not fit Idzik's plan, nor should he. He is building a team that will be a playoff contender year in and year out. A 28 year old linebacker with an injury history is not the answer.

I would kill to get Jimmy Graham on this team, but no way the Saints let him go. Worst case scenario, they franchise tag him.

Orkapo would be a great OLB for Rex's defense. To the poster who said he hasn't had double digit sacks since 2009 (where he had 11 sacks), he had 9 sacks each in 2010 and 2011. Last year he went down with the unfortunate injury. Let's see how he finishes this year, but he would be a great get.

My choice is actually Jarius Byrd though. He'd be the free playmaking safety we haven't had in god knows how long. I'd prefer him over Orakpo if I had the choice.

While I agree, you can't neglect filling needs through free agency either. You have to have a mix of both that and the draft to be successful.

As its been said earlier- Id rather sign Jimmy Graham for the additional 2 mil per year (probably a similar contract to Gronk at 6 years 53).

Graham would last longer as TE's seem to stay effective well into their early 30s if they do not get seriously injured (Gonzo, Witten, Gates). He would be a nightmare matchup.

I doubt New Orleans lets him hit FA though...

Draft, draft and draft some more, keep money in house and get explosive playmaker on offensive side of the ball.

Keep team young, fast and talented.

No thanks let's develop and draft players and use free agency to shore up positions and add depth. We 're gonna need that money to resign Wilkerson, Richardson, Coples etc.

    This, times 1,000.

We have a QB that can throw the ball downfield. First time since Favre, and he was a rental. Let's get the dude some weapons.
