You take too much stock in the draft, look at all the QBs drafted in the 1st & 2nd rounds that are complete busts.

There are rookie undrafted FAs starting at key positions every year on teams which proved theses so called professional scouts can't judge heart, will and football intelligents.

Back when the NFL had 12rd drafts there were as many guys making the team from rounds 6-12 as there were rounds 1-5.

I'll give him a chance but I don't see the spark yet with him. I hope it shows up and something clicks. He gets more comfortable, learns how to hit a simple slant pass, and learns how to get rid of the ball without having to see an entire play develop first.

OK but we are talking about the QB position here. Not WR, LB, or K. QB. The field general. The most important position in the game. If he couldn't do it at Tennessee in the SEC, what the fuck makes you think he is just going to turn it on all of a sudden in the NFL?

What you're describing are rookie mistakes that can be overcome and you're not looking at the physical attributes.

He's got a terrific arm (velocity and accuracy), he keeps his cool and he can scramble. The other problems (touch, decision-making, staying in the pocket too long, the short passes he threw Sunday) can all be corrected.

I can't stand you . You don't watch collage football. You don't know that simms is just gonna come in and light it up. The guy was not even drafted. Brady was at least a draft pick even though that has nothing to do with . It seems almost every year some QB plays well in preseason against 3rd and 4th stringers and people like you label them busts. Geno is 1-1 and almost beat a veteran QB in a bad weather game . Both Kids have a arm . Geno was our 2nd round pick. Let him play and wait and see. I bet geno plays better this week.

Simms has a fulltime coach in his dad whom I always liked, and is in his 2nd season on a NLF roster, were he has been studying defenses and learning. Simms came here humble and eager to learn. Smith came here with an attituted and thinking he was a star.

What evidence can you provide that Smith came here with an "attituted?"

Are you referring to draft day?

Where have you seen this attitude from Smith? He doesn't think he is a star.. He came here to work and that is all he has done. He was busted his ass.. Confidence is different from cockiness my friend..

    Geno = Confident
    RG3, Kap = Cocky.

    Big Difference.

Against that new Bills defense Smith will be hitting the ground a lot. I would say running for his life, but he can't run for sh!t either. If he has a better game I will be shocked, yet with a 27 QB rating and 42% completion, it sure wouldn't be hard to be better now would it.

If he does worse than a 27 QB rating in this game and is not benched I would hope Rex gets fired on the spot.

Your credibility as an astute student of the game is quickly diminishing.

Ok . I say he will play better and you are saying he is gonna stink. So you are rooting for him to play bad and have rex fired. What kind of jet fan are you? You must be young cause I cannot see a long time suffering jet fan giving up week 3 and just hope our QB and Coach fail.

    And you think your better.

I say Smith will be sacked 5 time with one fumble and not break the 55% completion even with MM calling all screens and dink/dunk plays which he will to try and keep the Defense off Smith. Smith will be lucky if he is standing by the end of the game.

Give your great prediction if you know so much and we can compare after the game....

Simms has support "within the organization" to play.

Had this come from Mehta, then this board would largely ignore it, but because it's from Schefter, it's somehow different? Seriously.

Be careful reading too much into this article. The source is anonymous and there's no context to the quote. Don't attribute a meaning that is simply not supported by an eight-word sentence. Let's do what this board's always done in the face of this "red-meat", tabloid journalism: Be objective, smart, and have a healthy amount of skepticism.

That is alot to correct and his velocity and accuracy were garbage last week. So when the things he does well aren't clicking it's all bad since the tings he already doesn't do well are critical for a QB.

Wrong, I have been around since when we actually won a SB and have been a Jets fan through all the horrible coaches of the 70s, until now. I am a student of the game and always have hope, but Smith has never shown anything to make me believe he will be a QB, whether in college or up til now. I felt Glennon or Nassib were way better QBs and we could have gotten them later in the draft. Smith is not a student of the game.

I would love to be proven wrong and for him to lead us to a SB or two, but then I don't belive he has the IT factor and since I am OLDER I don't have or want the Jets to waste anothe 4-5 years on a QB who is a below average starter.

The helmet boy was probably placing all the helmets into the players lockers after cleaning them, and he placed Simms helmet in his locker before he did Geno's and here we are.....'

MATT SIMMS HAS SUPPORT FROM JETS ORG!

It was a tweet from Schefter, who up to this point, has shown about zero interest in fanning the flames of a Jets QB controversy.
