I have heard the same rumors you are talking about, and if they are true, then they are proof that he is the exact WRONG guy for the job. If your QB is too comfortable and doesn't feel any pressure to lose his job even if he has not really established himself as a solid QB (and in many ways has done the opposite), then he doesn't need to be pressured, he needs to be replaced.
If the defense keeps playing solid and holding teams to under 20 pts and your QB can't generate more than 13 pts you have to make a change. You have to say well this guy just can't get the job down or needs to sit and watch a bit. You have to understand the team is not just about watching geno struggle. If the young defense is excelling you need to put a QB on the field that let's them compete.
Just to put things in perspective I gathered a second year QB's stats from when he replaced the franchise starter. The key stat was he wasn't turning the ball over his first few starts and had a defense that could score points, and was real lucky on the fumbles. 2001 Pats Season Breakdown Game 2 Jets 10 NE 3 Brady in for Bledsoe 5/10 46 YDS 0 TD 0 INT Game 3 NE 44 IND 13 Defense had 2 Pick 6’s Brady 13/23 168 YDS 0 TD 0 INT Game 4 MIA 30 NE 10 Brady 12/24 86 YDS 0 TD 0 INT 2 Fumbles – none lost Game 5 NE 29 SD 26 Brady 33/54 364 YDS 2 TD 0 INT 2 Fumbles – none lost Game 6 NE 38 IND 17 Brady 16/20 202 YDS 3 TD 0 INT Game 7 DEN 31 NE 20 Brady 25/38 203 YDS 2 TD 4 INT First bad game Game 8 NE 24 ATL 10 Brady 21/31 250 YDS 3 TD 0 INT Game 9 NE 21 BUF 11 Brady 15/21 107 YDS 1 TD 1 INT 2 Fumbles – 1 Lost Game 10 STL 24 NE 17 NE Defense had 1 Pick 6 Brady 19/27 185 YDS 1 TD 1 INT Game 11 NE 34 NO 17 Brady 19/26 258 YDS 4 TD 0 INT 2 Fumbles – None Lost Game 12 NE 17 JETS 16 Brady 20/28 213 YDS 0 TD 0 INT 1 Fumble – None Lost Game 13 NE 27 CLE 16 NE Special Teams 1 TD Brady 19/28 218 YDS 0 TD 2 INT Game 14 NE 12 BUF 9 FG Fest Brady 19/35 237 YDS 0 TD 0 INT Game 15 NE 20 MIA 13 Brady 11/19 108 YDS 1 TD 0 INT 1 Fumble – None Lost Game 16 BYE Week Game 17 NE 38 CAR 6 NE had 2 Defensive TD’s and 1 ST’s TD Brady 17/28 198 YDS 1 TD 2 INT 1 Fumble – None Lost Brady had 10 INT’s and 11 fumbles with only 1 lost in this time frame. (Lucky on the fumbles) He didn’t throw an interception until his 4th start. I would like to think Simms is this guy. BTW - I am not a troll, I just don't post much.
Tom Brady is the exception not the rule. Hoping a second year UDFA who hasn't made a single regular season start is the next Tom Brady is insanity. I like Simms though and hope he gets a chance by someone so he can write his own story. Sent from my HTCEVODesign4G using Tapatalk 2
That is the dilemma they face. Its only two weeks but other than Jacksonville the Jets have scored the fewest points in the league (not counting tonights game). You live with rookie mistakes but there needs to be progress in reducing those mistakes and you need to score points or the team needs to find ways to score, if that means a switch at QB so be it. I do think this becomes a moot point for now unless Geno has more 2 and 3 INT games against Buffalo and Tennessee and they lose both, then its fair game to open up the QB competition because the rest of the schedule up until the bye is pretty tough (yeah they could be pittsburgh, cinn and who knows maybe even NO but not if Geno is continually making the same mistakes).
yeah, I have never read that rumor other than from fans on a website speculating that it, which is more about their own insecurity or motivation in a similar situation. "if Mark doesn't feel threatened, he won't try as hard."
I was thinking something else. With Sanchez out of the question, the media is trying REALLY hard to create a QB controversy that doesn't exist. Or maybe I am too naive.
A shot worth taking... I would like to see him in a couple of starts just to see if he can be the exception. Brady was not stellar that year, just good enough. And the tuck rule saved his ass in the playoffs. The next year they went 9-7 as we backed our way into the playoffs and won the division. Maybe Geno can be that guy, but I have a feeling he won't be put into a position to win with our coaching staff. We should have run the ball on the NE 27 and tied the game. That would have changed the game for Geno as well, and he might not have had 3 INT's.
my guess is that they planned on trading el taco before the deadline to another team in need of a backup, even if they had to eat some salary. they were going to stash McElroy on ir, but he preferred to settle and move on to the bengals. Quinn and el taco are 3rd string at best, and movable/release candidates , except that Quinn is not guaranteed salary. :metal:
Who would trade for Sanchez? He was not tradable healthy, and there is no offset to his guaranteed salary.
I agree with this, and we will find out when we play Atlanta. Even when they are unhealthy they are very good.
Of course it's good, it's a Ryan D and when has he EVER not had a good D?...what we don't know is if it's a great D.
